• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Key broke, what are my options..

To the original person posting.
Suggest avoiding the expense of the oem electronic key. Have the DESS disabled and then use a standard key. If your frunk cable remains free and you like using the key to open it that is fine. If the cable has locked up, you should consider replacement or as others mentioned, add an aux latch release system and avoid using the key for anything more than running and stopping the engine.

The head of the X270 key is rectangular. Lay a chipped key on top of the cut X270 and scribe the angles circled in yellow in the picture. I did it on my bench grinder and it took longer for the key to cool than it took to grind the bevels.

Thanks for all you help, folks, used my Dremel and now the key fits as is should.

You will have to find someone who has purchased the necessary license for B.U.D.S. ..... very few if any Dealers buy it, because if they dis-abled the DESS system and BRP found out about it .... BRP would probably end the relationship with the Dealer ..... plus dis-abeling DESS would leave them open for Law suits ....jmho ..... Mike :thumbup:

I think the easier solution is to pay $65 for a new programmed key... Your solution if that sounds like a needle in the haystack, plus when I resell the bike, not sure how the new owner would feel about the non security

Thanks !

You did not mention the year of your machine, that can make a difference in whether it requires BUDS or BUDS 2.
Regarding the DESS being disabled, as an owner, there is no means to know if DESS is active or not. Granted, if a dealer were to connect BUDS or BUDS 2 to your Spyder, they might notice DESS is not active. Typically though, they might not notice as there are no pop ups, alerts, or similar, and to see DESS status the tech would need to go to that exact page and then read the status.

My experience with dealers regarding BUDS, BUDS2 that Can Am provides, and what we as owners are able to buy, indicates that typically dealer techs are unaware about aftermarket BUDS, BUDS2 or the differences between dealer versions and other versions.

Regarding the $65 key, you might find that the actual key cost is $65. There may be a reasonable shop fee to program tne key to the Spyder. This could be an additional charge and requires time in the shop for the Spyder.

If you think the DESS security is going to prevent it from being stolen - Here's a news flash ..... it WON'T .... your Spyder will be pulled up onto a flat bed and then driven away. I no longer have the DESS connected and it's just as safe as yours as long as I remove the key .... just some food for thought ..... good luck .... Mike :thumbup:

:shocked::popcorn: Been running around without a spare:dontknow::yikes:
Agree with others:thumbup:Hopefully you find good lock smith willing to try :thumbup: good idea to go ahead & get them copy a chip-less blank as well; Ilco X-270 Blank works. some bevel the corners on key head so will push into ignition better for the other operations. & have a good spare somewhere safe:clap::bbq: not your week:roflblack:
View attachment 191941 could always be worse, still above ground & able to talk about it.
After posting on another thread. Had me rethink this post so Rather than just edit (may not get noticed) I’ll quote myself & more appropriate pic, first is funny this one F790FC1D-20C5-4C41-8317-4FF3CEF49B0A.jpeg has been more helpful personally.
