• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This has probably been beat to death but in my owners manual:
The specification page call for API SJ SL SM or SN and JASO MA2.
In the Maintenance Procedures section it calls for Synthetic API SJ SL SM or SN (No mention of JASO MA2)
So does the new RT 2020s need the JASO MA2 spec or not?

Make sure the oil has a JASO certification. The MA2 means it is approved for use with a catalytic convertor. What would happen to the convertor if you used just the MA...???. Wouldn't hurt the engine or clutch.:dontknow:
 
JASO MA came out in 1999 - first year for this standard, MA2 is for all wet clutch applications and is designated for a catalytic converter. The JASO standard only indicates that the oil is wet clutch compatible, no friction modifiers. Can get the same information from the API donut on the oil bottle, but look at the API donut and read the label. As long as the lower half of the donut is blank, there are no energy conservation/friction modifiers in the oil - good to go.

You see in the one API donut the lower half is blank - good to go, the other indicates resource conservation - don't use.

The JASO rating designates how much friction you can expect at the wet clutch. The MB rating being the least and the MA2 being the most. You want to get the MA2 rated oil regardless of which Spyder model or year you are running. The 998 V-Twin was much more sensitive to JASO and clutch friction than the 1330. But you still want as much friction at the wet clutch as you can get. If that clutch starts slipping, it can be a very expensive fix. I do not suggest attempting to run anything less than JASO MA2.
 
Not wanting to steal the thread, but directly related - I see a lot of people on here using Amsoil in their Can Ams. The 2021 RT-L says to use 5W/40...but the only 5W/40 Amsoil has are European motor oil, both with the API rating of SN, SM. Is this what everyone is using even though it doesn't look like it has the JASO rating?
