LED turn signals and now hyper flash

today I installed some LED rear turn signal bulbs. Nice and bright, but now I have hyper flash. Tried Lamonster's method and Tricled's and neither worked. I may have to result to adding a resistor. If I do go that route where do I need to install it?

Thx

1. 2018 F3 Limited
2. changed rear turn signals using 1056 BAU15S 7507 12496 1156PY PY21W Amber Non-Polarity 2835 39-SMD 9-30V LED bulbs
3. tried the Lamonster method to eliminate hyper flash - did not work
4. tried TricLED method - did not work
5. If I need a resistor, what value and where do I need to add it?

Thx
Rick

I have the same issue.
Added the same bulbs and have hyperflash.
Will keep watching this post for a solution .

Hyper flash is caused by the signal system not having enough load - throw back from years gone by to alert the operator that a bulb was not working. There are LED signal flashers that are designed to eliminate hyper flash. Had this issue on my '85 Goldwing. Installed LED signal bulbs and then added this LED signal flasher. Works well. Took a video with my cell of the new led signal lights with the OEM flasher, and a video with the LED flasher installed, significant difference. Attached is a picture of the 3 prong LED flasher. Need the 3 prong flasher for auto signal cancellation, at least I needed the 3 prong on my Goldwing. There is a pin for the power to the flasher, one that goes out to the signal lights. The third prong goes to the self cancelling unit. The self cancelling unit provides an easier ground for the power to the flasher, and as such, power to the signal lights is cancelled.

Not sure about differences with the '18 models, but I had similar experience with my wife's '17 RT-S.

Nothing worked until I tried LaMonster's procedure WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.

If it's anything like a car you would need one for each side and make sure to keep them "AWAY" from anything that might melt. Those things get very hot.

I'm sure someone else will chime in on the location.

on my Harley I had a 'little black box' that I attached to the bike and it took care of all LED changes no matter where. would be nice if such a thing existed as I may want to add more LEDs and don't want to have to add a resistor for each one of them.

Have a 2018 F3-S (Euro model) and the Lamonster method worked with mine.

The trick should work with all Spyders with BUDS... I believe from 2019 and + the system has been upgraded to BUDS2 and you'll need resistors with it.

Could be yours is a late 2018 model which got the BUDS2, mine has a manufacturing date from May 2018.

Does not work on the 2018+

It works on my 2018 F3 Ltd .... of course, all my add-on LEDs are either from Lamont or Harvey "Spyderpops" Clark. That might explain why the hyperflash will reset in every case -- tried, true, and tested before bringing to market.

All the best ... Ann

I replaced my rear turn signals with LEDs and replaced my backup lights with LEDs slaved to the turn signals. The reprogramming method, at least for me, doesn't last. After a few hundred miles, the turn signals flash normally for about 30 seconds and then hyperflash. I had these https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...-turn-signal-hyper-flash-warning-fix/190/831/ from another project and will be installing them as part of my changing the fog lights to LEDs that are slaved to the turn signals (no signals, both fogs lit; turn signal, on fog flashes and other dark). I'm using three Timers Shop programmable relays.

rednaxs60 -- I think the 30 year difference in electronics will not support your solution. The turn signal functions in the left grip generate CANbus messages and the dashboard takes it from there. I believe only an applique of some sort on the lamp wires will work. But I'm ready to be wrong (it happens).

Here's my solution to hyperflash: Hyperflash solved - no resistors
2021 Spyder RTL. I tried installing LED rear signal light bulbs from Superbrite LED's but could not stop the hyperflash (very rapid blinking) using the Lamonster method. I found LED bulbs WITH built in resistors and the correct BAU15S base. PITA to remove the rear body work to get at the bulbs, but well worth the $30 for 2 bulbs. BTW, a 7/32 socket can be used instead of the 5.5mm socket called for in the DIY instructions.

WDAVEY -- I bought my LED bulbs at superbrightleds.com. As I recall the resistor versions were about half the lumens of the non-resistor versions. What did your comparison show?

Bert. My first set of LED bulbs was from superbrightleds. I could not solve the hyperflash using any of the "methods". I did not see any bulbs from superbirghtleds that had built in resistors and did not want to start cutting into the wiring on my brand new '21 RTL. I found LED's with the correct base (pins are at 150*, not 180*) and a built in resistor at Auxito.com. I don't recall the lumen values, but the Auxito bulbs are VERY bright! They have a lens at the end that seems to focus all the light towards the rear. Website has numbers that I don't understand.

Hope this helps.
