Oil leak 2021 400 miles HELP

Do either of these Spyders have any signs of spillage near the fillers?? :dontknow:

I can't help but notice that even for a 'new engine', the oil both your pics show is looking awfully clean for oil that's been thru the engine - even if only for a few hundred miles or so?? Which makes one wonder, did whoever did the assy on either/both of those machines just get a bit sloppy when they were throwing the oil in??

Even a little 'fresh oil spillage' will go a loooong way; and given all the little nooks & crevices & trays where a small puddle could be trapped/contained underneath the tupperware on a Spyder, they could easily drip like that for MONTHS afterwards?! :gaah:

Possibly even longer if they were overfilled too! :p ;)

Mine did, and I saw and oil rainbow when I washed it but no drops of oil. Then I saw two drops in the fall, so without looking under it I washed again with some s100 and put it away for winter. Spring there was two drops still on the spyder and not on ground, one was on exhaust and other was straight across on left side of engine. The plastic cover was holding IMG_20210312_183140.jpg.

Thanks for all the input everybody!

I had my shop for 26 years, when we had a tricky oil leak we put fluorescent dye in the oil ran it a while or let the owner have it for the wknd and then we shine a blacklight on it and you will find the source of the leak without cleaning anything. They sell dye for coolant too. Most all replacement ac refrigerant already has the dye in it when you buy it bc thats about the most common way to find a tiny leak, that and a electronic sniffer but those can drive you nuts.

When you drive that oil will travel on the underside of the engine. Recheck the drains washers.

Well anyway good luck. I stopped using the crush washers and wet with JCthorne suggestion/uses a rubber sealing washer.

Update: Took her out in 39 degrees brrrrrrrrr. 10 miles came home let idle for 10 mins and the checked oil level within 2 mins and this what I found.
Can Ams dipstick sucks!
I think it was over full a little :hun: as I kept taking some out, then let idle for a few mins and recheck. After all that I could finally see where the oil level was as the picture shows.
*sorry for the blurry pics - looks like its just below the x on MAX.

Looks like 1/2 qt over full.

After it has sat for hours the oil level is now at the min mark, from what I read from trikermutha link this looks like that's how it should be so Ill have to clean off the back of the engine and re-test to see if the was the cause of my oil seepage problem.
jcthorne stated this : All this aside, the BRP Spyder owners manuals used to have 2 procedures for checking oil, one cold and one hot and it cause lots of confusion. I can tell you that a Spyder (998 or 1330) that has proper oil level at operating temp will be just at the bottom of the dipstick when cold. Not an exact measure but its great for a go / no go for a ride.

Found oil drips on my 2021 with less than 100 miles today. Source seems to be a sensor just above the transmission filter. Not sure what the sensor is. Cleaned the area and let it run. No immediate leakage. Will have to ride for an hour and check again.

Mine was overfilled by 16 to 17 oz of oil. I just removed the excess yesterday and will be testing today.
Your the third one to have this oil leak issue on the 2021's, can you show us where you see the leak(pic)? I miss my 2018 as 15 mins it was wide open to work on everything, this 2021 not so much.

Here is my oil level after getting the engine hot and fans come on after idle down for 10 mins. My oil was over full by 16-17 oz of oil!
Will this be the cause of the oil leak?
Ill be cleaning it down with some brake clean today and will do some more riding to find out.

I checked my oil level today and it was overfilled the same amount as yours. I still need a warm day to take it for a long ride to make sure no more leaks.

Thanks for the update!! I've been cleaning my underside with brake cleaner to get all the oil off of everything. 3rd can!!!!!
If this was caused from overfill where does it come out at? My air box was clean and dry, any ideas?
Oil has penetrated everything and I'm up to my 3rd can of brake clean!nojoke

Here is my update.
Cleaned everything and let idle for an hour and nothing leaking.
Took out for a short ride and it was leaking on the left rear as you can see from the pics so I went bonkers and tore that side apart.
This maybe from the over fill - maybe from the dipstick tube on the other side as I see it has a set of o rings and clips in.
I'm hoping this is all the leftover from it being so overfilled as the last pic shows how deep area is and maybe from the hard exceleration is letting this oil out?
*Notice the last pic the holes are not full so just maybe its just all the excess coming out (praying)

While many engines with too much oil in them have ended up with oil filled air cleaners, there are also some that've blown the dip-sticks outta their hole (helped by some thread damage maybe?? :dontknow: ); and others that've leaked profusely from the filler caps &/or blowing oil out thru anywhere else there's a gasket or seal that's designed to keep oil under working pressure inside the engine!! :gaah:

But then again, even just spilling 250 mls or so during an oil change can see the nooks & crannies around the erngine & under-body trays etc collect enough oil to drive people nuts with the ongoing dripping, despite numerous cleaning efforts too!! Unless you actually get into every little hollow that can trap even the tiniest amout of oil, you can end up with drips quite some time down track - usually showing up after a ryde & then standing for a bit!

I hope your leaks belong in that last category, but really this is something your dealer should be addressing as a matter of priority - if they aren't, you should start a case with BRP, cos it might become a more drastic issue for them & the dealer if it's left un-fixed for too long!

After more digging I think it porosity in the block! Here's after I cleaned it then let idle for about 20 mins. You can see to top hole with some oil in it.
This will go directly to BRP, I'm not wasting my with a dealership as I bought this from Imotorsports in Illinois.
My 2018 lost the DRS going around a turn and I almost had a head on collision less than 1000 miles, so why not start off on the wrong foot on the 2021 with 500 miles.
I was hoping for something simple.

The casting in your first picture looks a good bit like a Monday morning or late Friday job. Sure hope BRP care comes through for you.

Im sure they will, just the point of not having it repaired for several weeks to over a month if the engine block is the problem.
I'm going to investigate some more and send BRP a nice email about this issue and see what they have to say. Im hoping its just the black cover above it, and I'll use a Q-tip to see if any oil is wicking down into the hole and leaking out of the casting.
UPDATE: I filled both cavities with wd40 this morning, the top cavity is dry at 4pm so this concludes the casting is bad and there's a hole in the block.
BRP was contacted.................................
