• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I think I'm going to try to figure out a brighter solution for that little guy. Maybe tie into that circuit for an LED strip. Still mulling it over, but wow what a revelation this thread has been!

I used the two wire adapter. Then tied that into the LEd light strip.

Is the harness connector readily accessible or did you have to remove a bunch of tupperware?

Well its like behind the left fog light area. It was easier to locate when I pulled the frunk.

You maybe able to get to it if you remove the black upper panel. But still may have to fiddle area to locate it.

If you see a two pin connector it maybe the one you need.

Then you still have to get the wires back to the frunk area to power the light strip.

Well color me stupid.....I've never tried to open the frunk with the bike running, never would have believed ya could just push the key down and unlock the frunk with the bike running.......I am a dummy!!!!!:banghead: I still might add an LED strip in there anyway.

I agree. I've learned a number of things about my bike from this thread.

Do you have a link to their website, and a part number for this strip?
It looks AWESOME!  :2thumbs:

The LED light strip can be had at E-Bay. Comes in a spool of about 16ft and can be cut to any length desired. any color you want. Built in adhesive. Comes as waterproof or non-waterproof. Cost: cost about 15 bucks.

Unknowing our Spyder already had the frunk LED, I was given one of these optional LED frunk lights as a gift. BRP sells them as an add on option.

Undecided initially if I should return it or utilize the LED, I waited. As luck would have it, someone here was selling a new in the box frunk BRP LED kit which I bought for short money.

With two LED optional frunk lights in hand, I installed both in the trunk. The location is out of harms way. I wired it into the frunk wiring circuit.

Easily lights the entire rear trunk when needed.

As for lighting the frunk, overall, the oem small LED does fine in most cases. If more light is needed, with the frunk lid opened, I use the headlights and easily light up the frunk.

I did this on mine. Completely disconnected the existing light. Re-used the micro switch to power the new light and it works without the key on.Frunk Light.jpg

Once you turn off the key switch the light will delay stay on as long as the frunk is open. But will turn off once the delay timer shutdown.
The frunk light is powered through the load shedding relay along with the fog lights, grip heaters, and air shock compressor. The ECM shuts those off, as well as the headlights, after about 20 seconds. It turns off the "Dummy, you didn't set the parking brake" beeper at the same time.

I just went out to see if the fog lights shut off the same time as the headlights or not and I find they are not working! Grip heaters and horn work so the fuse is good and the relay is working. Bulbs must be burned out! Time to put the LED replacements in!

Too much effort and will kill the battery if the frunk lid is left open. Frunk has never been an issue, either good enough with the oem light or use the headlights.

The rear trunk was always dark. Tried various battery powered lights with good results. Some have bought those setups that plug into to 12v plug. Considered this but use the 12v for constant Battery Minder use. Adding the two lights was a bit of effort, but they are not in the way and hidden well. Wired them into the frunk power supply, ensuring they can not be accidentally left on and kill the battery.

Why would leave the frunk open? Do what you need to do and close it. Mine is wired with the existing micro switch and shuts off when closing the lid. Period.

Many times in the garage, I may close the frunk lid but not latch it in prep for the next ride, or simply leave it open.

Glad it works for you, I had considered doing the same but opted away from the chance for a low or dead battery.

Well, it's just a question of discipline. If I need to leave the lid open, for whatever reason, like working on the bike, I used a small piece of wire around the micro switch to keep it off. Again, learning & discipline. It is so nice to have light without having to use the key to open and again turn ON to have the light. Having the ignition ON for light in the frunk will use more power as now, you have light in the frunk plus the dashboard ON and the small parking light light too.

Press and hold the ECO button while turning off the ignition switch will put it in accessory mode.

So like the radio etc will stay on. I never tested the frunk light while using this mode.

I learned something new today. I didn't know that... Thank you. BTW, is this info in the manual? The book is missing a lot of good info.

Now, is anyone on this board figured out how to use an USB thumb drive for music on a 2018 RT limited? I tried using the existing USB ports but no good.

I read the Accessory mode on this site. May have been Finess Bob who mentioned it or Lamont?

I use a MP3 player but dont have a USB on my Spyder.

You did switch to AUX mode on the radio? for the USB to work. But then again I have no clue if you have a 2018 MY

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 and I found an area where a frunk light would go.

Here is a picture: Frunk Light 001.jpgRight side (inside of Frunk) front.( White is a paper towel to show the area).

Question: What is the hole at top?

Deanna

:dontknow: Assuming the towel is in the hole of the liner its for the light. NOT sure about the upper hole?

Right side? Left side of the bike is the light
