Simple way of settling it
A simple way of checking out post-reflash octane requirements would be to try a test tankful of premium gas. That would be considered anecdotal evidence.
My '09 SE5 (Hindle, Evoluzione air filter, O2 Eliminator) also surges and sputters following upgrade steering/engine flash. I was running 89 octane at the time, refueled right after flash with regular 87 octane, noticed surging after hot starts with high ambient temps. Runs fine after sitting all night.
Next tankful will be with high-test 91-plus octane.
Will post results. Would others in this discussion do the same? TIA.
