• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Belt Pulley Sprocket Issue RS-S

Happy New Year to everyone!! All of the very best for 2018.

We just completed a 600 mile round trip last Friday into Saturday. At halfway point I noticed the belt on rear pulley (see attachments) appear to be slipping off. Upon returning home the belt position returned to its original position, or close to it.

Info: Two-up w/ gear for two days and averaging 75-80 mph on the highway.

I'm taking her in to the dealer tomorrow for review and fix. So my question is:

Is there anything specific I should be telling the service dept to investigate?? Please advise.

Thnx for your input.

Rory

you didn't just back the bike up a few feet before you noticed it did you? because the belt will make some wild moves when backing up.

Curious...🤔

:agree: did you back up at any point before pulling into your parking slot..? The fact that it went back to normal or close makes it seem to be the issue. Never-the-less would be good to have it checked out as there is a dusty red coloring on the belt and could have a front pulley issue causing this...:dontknow:

Thnx

Perhaps its my aging mind playing tricks but I can't remember doing any reverse maneuvers. I will have checked out tomorrow nonetheless.

If you grab the pulley top and bottom can you feel any movement by rocking it side to side? There is a double row bearing in the pulley. They have been known to be a 'loose' fit within its housing causing the belt to move a bit. Get the torque on the front pulley retaining bolt checked also.

Checks....

All, thnx for the replies.

Did a couple of things:
  • Wiped parts of the belt w/ a clean paper towel and no evidence of "red dust", just dirt. Could it be the camera that gave the belt an unusual tint?
  • Rocked rear pulley...no movement
  • Tried to recall any reversing....nothing came to mind.

Will have service dept look at:
  1. Front pulley (wear)
  2. Torque setting of front pulley bolt, and
  3. Drive belt tension

If anyone can think of other checks they can do, please chime in.

Thnx a bunch!!!

A Syder owner made a video ( it's on U-tube ) of what your belt is doing ALL THE TIME you are driving down the road ...... guess what ??.... the belt moves side to side on the rear flange constantly .... After I watched the video ( about a dozen times ) I was no longer concerned about this type of movement. I try and check where my belt is after I stop for a break and very often it has moved from the last time I looked ........... Mike

I know Mike. But a lady was on here about a year ago with an almost identical picture. Her front sprocket fell off in the middle of the road on her way to the dealer. Best he gets it looked over just to be sure.

Appointment

Thnx all for your input.

Appointment on Saturday morning. I'll let you all know the outcome....stay tuned

Tension

All, ok dealer says belt tension was out of spec and they corrected that.....................I can only hope.

I took a pic of the belt position on the rear pulley after dealer "correction" and will keep any eye.

Thnx again for your feedback.
