There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spyder RT 2013 owners. Question ?

I did acquire a Spyder RT-S 2013 SE5 and I am very happy with it except with the fact that, from my point of view, it is running high in temperature when riding in city.
so my question is the following ...
I was told that the bike had the heat alleviation work, as per the recall, done.
Is there a way for me to check that this has indeed been done in full and right?
Thanks/kind regards
Bernard

Are there large air scoops on each side? Does the front fan blow to the front of the spyder when it comes on? If this has been done then it has had been done.
I owned one. The heat was terrible had to leave the bike outside of the garage to cool off before I could put it away. I traded it for a 14rts. This was before the total recall started to happen. Most of those that had the recall done are happy.

Have you had any unusual sweating below your beltline?
Or blistering on your kneecaps?

If NOT, then they probably did the recall.

But seriously for a second, it is my understanding that "town speed" does tend to heat up the 998.

Both above have you covered. Scoops = heat remediation measures. Fans should come on if it gets to hot when in town traffic.

I bought a 2013 RT last summer that had not had the heat recall done. Rode it home, took it straight to the local dealer and they did the recall for me. The bike is fine now, with the exception of more heat than I'd like on my right foot. There is a fix for that which I'll take care of myself. That hasn't stopped me from putting over 7000 enjoyable miles on it since labor day. At speed the analog gauge runs well below the half mark, and right at the half mark in traffic. Look for the black intake vents just below the lower corners of the windshield. If there, then the recall is done.

Are you referring to the temp on the temp gauge, or hot temp on your legs and feet? The temp gauge shouldn't go more than 1 bar above midpoint unless the ambient temp is well over 90°.

Thank you!

I've been trying to figure out if my 2013 RTL had this recall done too and your answer could not have been any more clear. " Look for the black intake vents just below the lower corners of the windshield. If there, then the recall is done."

Thank you Old Crow!

I have a 2013 RTL and I have only small issues during city driving and low speeds. The first point to remember is that you are straddling an internal combustion engine, you should feel heat.

Last year during the Independence Day parade, my ALR group rode, HD, Yamaha, Honda and one Spyder. The temperature was very near 100F, the sun was shining and the bikes were hot. One HD shut down, two others pulled over and the other riders were all complaining about the heat. Standing for a bit, seeking shade from overhanging trees and the like. One of my fellows looked at me and said are you not hot? I said, I told you these were high tech bykes, there is cooling fluid circulating inside the seat. He gave me a famous hand signal. The truth is my 2013 was operating cooler than any other in that extreme condition parade, did I have my right foot on a ryding boot and on the highway peg, YES SIR!

Truth, I cannot wear Sandler on my right foot while ryding my 2013 RTL, nor would I want to, that would not be safe operation.

The 998 RTs have always warmed-up during stop & go riding. It's just the nature of the Beast.
Once you get them up to speed, and get some air flowing through the radiator: everything should cool back down to a more "normal" level.

By the way: the 1330 RTs will also warm up under the same traffic conditions! nojoke
(But not as much...)

You can also give any dealer a call and they can check on their computer for the status of any recalls.

And you are very welcome. Enjoy the bike.
