• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Another Spyder accident - distracted driving

I'm glad the Spyder owner is okay, but it's a fallacy that people are fine if they are walking around. If anyone is involved in an accident get transported to a hospital for an evaluation. Internal injuries don't show up right away.

You're right I think he should have gone to the hospital. Someone in the SUV was transported though.
 
If you zoom in on the picture at the seat. The trunk lid is almost touching the windshield.
The seat looks like it is a backrest!

I have seen 3 other pictures / reports on rear end Spyder accidents over the last 2 years and the other 3 the rider perished.

This guy was lucky to be ejected. I bet the initial impact was not as damaging as the picture shows, and then when he was pushed into the SUV, that sudden stop ejected him onto the SUV and the rest of the crunch happened.

Luck guy and I agree with the previous post. This is why you do not stop right behind a car.

Wow.....always cautious about people behind me especially if making a left turn with no turn lane....if I see them coming up on me fast, I just go straight and take a different route. It looks like he had no choice as it appears he was just stopped in traffic....

So thankful he's OK. Thanks for sharing.

Looking at the pictures, it appears that first contact with the Spyder was back some distance. I think the fact that the Spyder was not right behind the vehicle in front of him when hit also played a part in him not being seriously injured. If I'm right, the "squish factor" might have been much greater had he been pulled up right behind the red SUV.
In my mind, another good reason to give yourself more space between you and the vehicle ahead of you.

I'm really happy he got to walk away from this preventable negligence of the offending driver.

This is the reason that I leave at least 20 feet and sometimes more between the car in front of me and my Spyder or my vehicle at stop lights and stop signs. I do not trust other drivers!!!!!

I am very glad that the spyder rider is ok.
 
I move around in the lane (and stop on one side or the other...), and i also leave a pretty healthy gap between me, and the vehicle in front.
...And then I watch my mirrors! :shocked:

if you left 20 feet out here, seaweed, you would get some goose in the next lane reversing into the spot as they want to turn off in a mile or so.....:shocked: .....well, that may be just a teeny weeny exaggeration, but........;)

I think Seeweed has the right idea. But I've lived in cities where people will squeeze into any spot available if it might get them in front of anyone else on the road.

Absolutely spot-on Bob!! I really get the paranoids after me when I'm stopped at intersections; I will often try to stay/move into the right lane so I can pitch-out into the bike lane, or around the corner, if I have to.
 
I've been rear ended on 2 wheels twice in my life . Once a long time ago I ended up on the hood/windshield of the car that hit me and another was a low speed that I stayed with the bike.
I'm actually more comfortable on a 2 wheel bike though. I had an incident where I saw the woman coming up fast from behind and I was off to the right enough I pulled up next to the car in front of me and she creamed that car I pulled around.
What's funny is that both drivers tried to blame me because the woman who hit the first car was "confused" that I moved around the car and she didn't know to brake, and the woman who got hit said she wouldn't have been hit if I hadn't moved! 😂. Gotta love NJ!

I actually came to respect "Jersey Drivers" as folks who will make a move IF they've got it figured that the odds are in their favor.
But the ones from Pennsylvania NEVER had a clue about what they were going to do next... :yikes:

:agree: Good Plan!! I do the same, but as Pete said earlier, when you're ryding in our cities & towns over here, if you leave too much of a space ahead, some turkey in an all consuming hurry to gain a nano-second of advantage will try to fill it!! So I also try to always 'leave an out' - & if at all possible, I also stop with my Spyder aimed at a gap & then STILL watch the mirrors!! :sour:

Yeah, a Spyder isn't a 2 Wheeler & you can't lane split readily, but if the worst happens (& luckily enough, I've been able to avoid it so far!) & you do get hit from behind, I'd much rather be pushed into the gap between the cars ahead in adjoining lanes than be sandwiched between a stopped car & a formerly moving car entirely within 'my lane'!! Might write the front wheels off, but if the bulk of the bike with me & my pillion on it don't get mashed into a stopped vehicle, then I reckon I'm gonna be much happier! Still, like I said - luckily enough, so far the vigilance in watching my mirrors & trying to always 'leave an out' has paid off; here's hoping it continues to do so!! :thumbup:

And IMO, there's no denying that the Ryder in the OP was one lucky Ryder!! :shocked:

ATGATT is great but always give yourself an out. You need to know where you are going to escape to.
 

Well folks on a serious note, you can stop twenty feet before, pull to the side, stand on your head and balance an egg on your big toe but there is no guarantee that this will not happen to you. You cannot control the person behind you. She is putting on makeup, lipstick and looking at herself in the mirror while scolding the kids in the back. He is reading the Wall Street Journal and just dropped his Cigar between his legs. Junior is trying to impress his present squeeze with his fast and reckless driving. Cell Phones are the worst. (No Junior Barnes you are not smart enough to text and drive at the same time) Well I guess you get the Picture.

This is my theory and I'm sticking with it: never drive anything but a cage on Friday evening, Sunday evening and Monday morning. These are the most dangerous driving periods period. Friday evening people are rushing home to start the Weekend. Sunday Evening they are rushing home from the weekend and Monday Morning they are rushing to work because they are late from having too good of a weekend!

Be careful out there, the life you save might be mine!
