There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Third break light, yes or no

New owner of 2016 RTS. Here's my question, do I add a third break light to the top of my trunk? I really think it would be a great safety option, but I hear so many stories of failures, electrical gremlins, limp mode etc. I saw a video from Shawn Smoak, a Can Am mechanic, and my own local Can Am service tech, tells me not to do it, because of the issues he has seen with third break lights, led American flags, and led add ons in general. I would assume that a lot of the failures are caused by cheap products or cutting into the wiring harness but I have also heard of issues with top tier products. They say the Nanny is very sensitive. I have a Tricled dealer close by and believe they would use quality products. I plan on taking some longer trips and don't want to get stranded because of an aftermarket add on. Advice please.

I've thought about doing the same thing and have also watched the video about the LED's. Seems to me the best bet is just flash my brakelights that old fashioned way and not worry about upsetting Nanny. Why invite problems?

Third Brake light

I installed Custom Dynamics brake/run light over three years ago. It is operating fine with no problems. I also convinced a fellow Spyder owner to install one and he has had no problems.

Just do it! There will be no problems at all. It makes you much more visible. We had the opportunity to sit with the lead designer at BRP and told him about that light and he took some sketches and sent them back to his team. Look for something along this line to be stock on a new RT in the future!

A must have IMHO

I had on both my '10 and '14 RTs........no issues.....definitely improved visibility......highly recommend....

I have the Custom Dynamics High mount brake/run/turn. It fits like perfect and looks great. No problems of any kind after installing it. I also added a break light modulator to it. It now flashes 4 times very rapidly, 3 times slow, then goes steady.

Here's the thing....

They have come a long way from the days when there were issues with the leds messing with the electrics on the spyder. If installed correctly you will have no problems and it is a safety feature. The flag is just bling but the brake/run/turn is a great feature. The front fender units are good as well....

I have the Custom Dynamic third brake light. It is an easy install and is very bright! Over 3 years no issue. Very visalable and looks oem !

Been running my TRICLED lights and Custom Dynamic lights for awhile now and have had no issues.
Just make sure the person wiring them it does it correctly and you should have no problems.

I done no splicing of any of my SPYDER harness. Everything was plug and play. The optional connectors they sell with pigtails can help with this task.

Some connectors are better than others I found out.

I have to agree on the "No splice just plug and play". I have a connector that a tech cut one wire and left it short will need to be fixed.

Yes. Custom Dynamics HMT Rear Brake Light

Absolutely. Adds visibility of your bike to people behind you when braking. I have had two of these on two Spyders. One of the first farkles I did on both Spyders. We have over 30,000 miles on our 2014 RT Limited and it still works great with no issues.

Custom Dynamics HMT brake light with dual converter is what I used. The dual converter allows running lights on the HMT brake light and then goes brighter for brake lights. Works great!

Good luck with your decision and enjoy your Spyder!

I've had a CD brake light has been on my 2010 and 2014 Spyders, and had no related issues. I think the added safety far outweighs any very small risk. I've seen a thread about issues with brake lights from either company creating a problem with performance.

+1---This works....

Just do it--------
The CD High Mount BRAKE light was one of the first farkels I did on my :f_spider:. It's always on and when you step on the BRAKES it gets even brighter
No problems at all with the High Mount BRAKE light.

I added the TricLED 3rd and 4th brake lights to mine, along with the BackOff XP brake light modulator. No issues at all, and it makes the brakes lights a lot more noticeable.
