Are both of the 1330's Oil Drain Plugs the same size?

I will be picking up my new 2015 F3S next week and wanted to order some aftermarket hex head drain plugs for it when I do my own oil changes. I notice in the owner's manual there are two drain plugs. The goldplug.com website lists only one replacement hex head drain plug. On my former ST-S with the 998 engine, I had to order two different size drain plugs. Are the two drain plugs on the 1330 engine the same size?

I bought the Goldplug items for my 1330. I had the Goldplugs on my 998 also. It turns out, one of them is the same one needed on the 998 but there is a 1330 specific for one side. Not sure which is which from senior memory.

I use the dimple plugs. http://magneticdrainplugs.co/canamspyder.php

I too bought the Dimple plugs. They are clearly superior to OEM. (Not knock OEM because I know they're made to a price point, etc) and are about the best magnetic drain plugs I've ever seen.

I agree with most of the other posters. Go with the Dimple Plugs.
Be careful, you'll need to salvage the O rings off the old plug and transfer them to the new plug, or make sure you have new O rings available.

I purchased Dimple brand a long while back.

USA designed and manufactured. Spoke to the owner, very nice guy and we had a neat chat about all sorts of stuff. He also explained that a major portion of his workforce is involving local retired senior citizens. He promotes his local community and the well being of the people of the community.

As for the Dimple product itself. Certainly not inexpensive, but from what I learned the magnets used in the Dimple plug have less loss of magnetic strength with heat from the oil than lesser quality drain plugs. Not saying a Gold Plug is bad, since I do not know about their magnets. I do know that the magnet must work well in a hot surrounding, thats why we install it.

How much metal on you picking up on the oil tank versus the trans plug with the magnetic plugs on the 1330? I know the stock trans plug has a magnet on it from stock

Work properly. Buy new o rings, swap out with the next oil change. The OEM drain plugs are horrible! Terrible design, fail easily, useless.

I'll be ordering the dimple plugs for my next oil change which is due in about 7,000 miles (three months). Thanks everyone for all the positive comments and good information.

I've never encountered a drain plug requiring the allen socket. The 6mm socket in particular seems a bit sloppy and I am worried about stripping it out if I put too much pressure on it. Has anyone had a problem with removing the original plugs? I have the Dimple plugs already to install. They look awesome.
Thanks,
Ken

Where are you putting the 6 mm Alllen head? That's clutch cover plug, aka transmission plug. Crankcase plug is T45.

On my first DIY oil change after dealer 3000 mile service both my plugs came out perfectly and there was no indication on them that the dealer tech had a problem on his first try on the bike.

I just picked up some Dimple drain plugs from the Toronto Motorcycle show. The guy gave me a great deal on the two for Deb's F3S, and the one for my Valkyrie. $90 for all 3.:thumbup:

Thank you sir, I knew someone would help me out. The T45 was what I was looking for. All I could find prior to this was two sizes 4mm and 5mm. I haven't been able to get it up high enough to see what I was doing and was just going by feel. I've got that cleared up now so will be glad to have real hex heads to work with.

I see the same sizes for both drain plugs on EBAY & Amazon for $9.95 Each - one with free shipping. $63 for 2 drain plugs seem high priced! Over the years I've see stripped threads on the crankcase due to over torque. Am I missing something on this $40 difference for 2 drain plugs - drain plugs are usually not a high usage item - every 5K to 7K miles, & nobody sees them except the mechanic. Please advise.
Thank you kindly,
Darrell

OK, what are the sizes and maybe we can figure it out; the 998 and 1330 have different plugs.

Ps: I just bought the GOLD PLUG brand, and I am very impressed with the magnet (1330 engine) I paid $ 24.00 delivered
