Trying Different Rear Tire on Spyder RT

After only getting about 10,000 km on my rear Kenda tire on my 2015 Spyder RT Limited, I have decided to replace it with the Toyo Proxes 4 tire, same size (225/50R15) as the Kenda original. The Toyo Proxes 4 has the rating of 95V as compared to the Kenda's 76H. Has anyone tried this specific tire on their Spyder, and if so, how has it performed and lasted so far for you?

I've only been on the forum for several moths myself, and I got beat up with the first few questions I asked too, but, like all of the other forums I frequent, there is a "search" tab here on S/L, in the upper right hand corner of your screen. The topic of tires has been beaten beyond the grave and the amount of opinions is so vast that you could literally read for days if you went through all of the different "tire" threads. But, in the end, they're all opinions. Tons and and tons of great info here, and nearly, if not all questions can be answered through the use of the search button. That's not to say you shouldn't ask any questions (that's what we're here for after all), but tires gets to be a sore subject. It compares to the age old question..."What kind of oil should I use?"....Good luck with the tire choice.

Thanks for your reply MZEMS2. I know I would open up a can a worms if I asked, "what tire should I choose?", but I did my own research on the tires available for the Spyder, read the posts on here (and there were a lot of good ones), then chose the Toyo Proxes 4. Now, I just thought I would ask if there is anyone on here who also chose the Toyo Proxes 4 tire that can provide me with some feedback on it. I've just installed it so it's brand new for me at this point. :dontknow:

I have a 2014 RTS-SE6 and I have a General Altimax RT 43 as a rear tire. I have not notice any difference, the spyder handles well on dry, wet, gravel, dirt roads. I replaced the Kenda tire @ 5,284 miles. I now have over 10,000 miles on my spyder. Deanna

TIRES!

Looks like you selected a tire you are comfortable with and I'm sure someone here has used that one before. I also use a 215/60/15 tire but a Michelin Primacy. No problems or complaints for 14,000 miles. Make sure you give us some reports as to how your choice works.

The proxes 4 is a great tire and should work really well. I know of one guy who used one and had nothing negative to say about it. Did you find it local? I was under the impression that toyo quit making that tire in that size a year or so ago?????
Check your date code to be sure.

Thanks for the warning !

I had never considered that a tire could go out of date. How long is a tire good past it's use by date ?

Most car tire manufacturers recommend not putting into service if more than 6 years and not rolling on a tire at all more than 10 years.
Personally, I'd pay more attention to condition and cracking vs. age but its still something to be mindful of.

I ran one of those and it had good traction and handling but wore out as quickly as the stocker for some reason

NEW TIRE

I just had a new Kumho Installed on my 2013 rt-s yesterday, although the original tire had over 10,000 mi. on It, I didn't think that was to bad..

How much are you paying for that Toyo?

Hi SpyderAnn. I paid $160 CDN (plus taxes) for the tire, ordered it from the dealer locally and had it in 4 days. This was one of the very few tires I found that manufactured the odd 225/50R15 size that I wanted to stay with for various reasons. :f_spider:Steve

Good advice and I did check the date code and it showed the tire was manufactured in the 19th week of 2015 (98L1915)- so I know that I have a newly manufactured tire. My tire dealer here told me he can order more if needed so I guess they must be still available at the price of $160 CDN, but you good American friends should be able to do better on the pricing since your US dollar is better than our CDN dollar.;)

I had purchased one in 2013 but didn't get to put it on my Spyder before it burned up, I sold it to a friend and it is doing nicely on her bike. I don't remember what I paid for it back then but when I looked them up now the price was around $179. :yikes: That's a bit high for me since I'm ready to put the 7th rear tire on my 14.
