Pressure valve purged

My fuel tank went off in my face due to faulty pressure valve, it had purged. Has this happened to anyone else?:f_spider::f_spider:

:welcome:

That is a new one to me. Five :ani29::spyder2::ani29::spyder2::ani29: and 130,000 miles.

One of mine is a 2011 RT just like yours, with 22,000 miles on it.

I haven't had it happen on my Spyder but Joe's KTM soaked him with gas once. He was sitting on the bike while he fueled it and it splashed back in his face and all over. It has never done it again.

fuel in face

Uh...is that "tech speak"? Maybe I am just mechanically challenged, but perhaps you can explain
how your face is on your fuel tank.

when I turned gas cap it flew out of my hand due to the pressure from gas tank. hot gas shot out . I was standing along side of bike..

Checking your profile, I see that you've got a 2011 RT...
Some of these bikes were plagued with boiling fuel issues. If you ride it a lot in stop and go traffic; there isn't enough airflow underneath the Bodywork, and engine heat will start to cook stuff...
The hood scoops that have been made available for the 2013 RTs will certainly help you. Contact your dealer, and have his call BRP, to get you a set. You should also consider having him remove the acoustic panels that are underneath the bodywork. That will also aide in improving airflow...
Good Luck!

...And :welcome:

Noticed my tank burped while filling it but only on hot day and while topping up i.e. when almost full. I rock mine sideways to get gas to slosh around and use the last gallon of space in tank almost above the fill line

Pressure valve ptoblem

BRP is standing behind this defect...My RT is a 2011 but I bought it in 2012 and it now has 42,000 miles on it, as you can see I ride my bike a lot, through all kinds of weather, I cannot loose my eye sight because of riding my bike. Hopefully this will fix the problem.:spyder:

Interesting..!!

generally if you have that kind of pressure build up getting the gas cap off has been a problem. :dontknow: once loose air pressure should escape but push fuel out only if tank is full. I have had issues (very low fuel level) filling the tank because of overheated fuel cutting the fuel nozzel off (CA pumps) therefore having to wait till the vapors clear. Try not to let fuel levels get to low on hot rydes to avoit the boiling....thanks for the info  good idea to stand to the side when releasing the gas cap

I don't understand what your statement means, sorry. You say, BRP is standing behind defect. Does that means they have said they will fix it past warranty? You say "Hopefully this will fix the problem." What are they fixing?

My bike is still in the shop, When I get done I will give an update. For now I have been in Constance contact with BRP.. I have an extended warranty..:spyder2:

2001 Gas Cap

The guy I bought my 2011 from said BRP mailed him a new gas cap as part of a recall.

That should be 2011

The old gas cap that was part of that recall would not cause the problem the OP stated.
Something is wrong with the tank vent / purge valve or roll over sensor.

Ok so it's still under warranty. That's good. Thanks for clearing that up.

They should check the vent hose between the tank and charcoal cannister to make sure it is not blocked or pinched shut. Also they should replace the rollover valve. That should fix it.

A problem with the purge valve or purge system would not cause this. I have never heard of a rollover sensor. Where is it? How would it cause this problem?

Sorry I meant roll over valve not sensor.... I had not had my cup of joe yet and it was early ;)

I am on the east part of the continent. So I was already full of coffee, bacon and eggs. :D Others may say I am full of other stuff.

When end this happened I had over a half of a tank of gas, I was just topping off to make the last of the ride. It was a very warm day about 105 degrees, but I have ridden in hotter in Arizona and never had this problem before?.:spyder2:

Wonder how the tanks are building up pressure when they are normally vented to the atmosphere.
