• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone reported the D.E.S.S. error on models earlier than 2014?

Prior to the 2014's, the setup was different. The DESS module on the older models received the information from the key AND did the authentication. If it liked what it saw, it told the ECM to start the bike. That's why on older models if you swapped the DESS module, you had to reprogram the keys. With the 2014's, the DESS module is just a pass thru -- it receives the information from the key and simply passes it on to the ECM. The ECM does the authentication and decides whether to start the bike or not. So the DESS module on the 2014's can be swapped out with no reprogramming of the keys -- the authentication information is stored in the ECM.

I would say that means that the DESS modules are totally different and experience on prior years does not relate to 2014's. I asked my tech, who's very good, if he had any idea why BRP would have changed their strategy. He thought about it and said it may have been to make it easier to add new keys for people. With the old system, it was cumbersome and took some time to program the keys. Now he said they can use BUDS and it's really quick. Sounded like a good thought to me but only BRP knows for sure why they did it.

There's a Bluetooth dongle in the Frunk?

If you buy the Sena SM10 dongle from the dealer they will put it on a bracket in the frunk in front of the battery door. Some folks claim there's unacceptable interference with it in that location but mine works fine. YMMV.

Bob, Thanks for reminding him. Deanna

Really Dee !!!!........ But Bob's Hi-jack's are OK ?????......See His post's # 36, 42, 44, 48, & 57 ..... those didn't have anything to do with DESS issues ................. How's this from now on ...BOB will help you out with any Spyder issues you have !!!!!!!.....see how that works out for you :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:

Have you been able to ride this weekend at all :dontknow:? The weather is gorgeous! (87 degrees down here!)
This would be offering some support to a rider whose bike is giving her trouble...

Are you related to Joe Walsh?? :D

Okay; I'll give you this one... But it IS a good song! :D

The antenna? Perhaps it's just not getting set back exactly where it needs to be? :dontknow: This is NOT a 50,000 watt radio station; placement could be critical.
This one is ABSOLUTELY on-topic, as I was discussing another possible source of trouble for the DESS system.

:D Yes; yes it would!
Well; you've got me on this one also! :D
I'm NOT throwing anyone under the bus, but to be fair; I didn't start this one!
:D That's quite all right...
It's not as if I've NEVER gone off-topic before! :D
Once again; a discussion with Dee, where I was simply assuring her that I bore no ill-will toward her over what she had posted...
:lecturef_smilie: You must add
context; for the meaning to be clear!

I actually don't think so... nojoke
Here's why:
I don't insult Mike personally; but I WILL correct him on perceptual errors and factual points...
Having said that: I DO enjoy seeing what he comes up with... He's so far outside the box; that I doubt he can even see it at times!

Of course; I could run afoul of the Boss for a myriad of other reasons...

NEWEST Picture of D.E.S.S. KEY on a 2014 RTS-SE

Here is the newest picture of the D.E.S.S. KEY CODE on my 2014RTS-SE6:

attachment.php

I tried both keys and got the same D.E.S.S. error code, I also turned the key 4 to 5 cycles, and I DID NOT LET THE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN, the dealer told me this ( via phone call last week) I was at home when this occurred. BRP must get a grip on this asap. Deanna
