I don't know where your studies were done but I can testify that where I live, in the mountains of WV, MOST deer strikes happen at dusk or at night. My cameras catch most deer on the move around my feeders at 11:00 pm and 4:00 am. It's rare to drive into our "haller" at night without seeing deer. Many of my relatives have had deer strikes...ALL at night...and I've have many near misses...ALL at night.
Deer strikes at night should be more common, we are not nocturnal animals. Our eyes do not work as well after the sun has gone down. Maybe you are thinking that is the reason we use headlights. Lights work great for the area they illuminate, but actually decrease your ability to see outside the illuminated area. This leads to the deer actually being able to sneak up on you at night, meaning you have less time to react when they are in your headlights. Deer can be active at night, especially if there is any moonlight to create an advantage for them. I am not saying deer do not move at night, I am just saying that they can be just as active during the day.
Just sayin'............
