• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Zumo GPS question

Other posts I've read from way back agree that there is between 2-4 mph difference in GPS and Spyder, with the Spyder registering as going faster than the GPS. My Lowrance XOG shows me actually going about 3 mph slower than the spyder at all speeds.

:agree: One of my BMWs is a former California Highway Patrol bike. As such, it has a certified speedometer. I have checked it against radar several times, and it is right on the money (unlike most BMWs which are 10-12% optimistic). Every time we have checked Nancy's Spyder against the Beemer, the Spyder read around 3 mph high at 35, 4 around 55, and probably more at highway speeds, but we never checked on the slab.

Thanks guys and gals, my plan is to mount the zumo front and center and think that it will block the speed indicator portion of the display so obviously I would need to rely on the gps for speed information.

How accurate is the speed indicator on the Zumo compared to the spyder display?
Thanks!

So I don't have the Zumo, but I did just purchase a refurbished Garmin Quest off the web for $89.

I've found that the Quest and the Spyder are spot-on with their mph reading. Note, it takes about 3-5 seconds of maintaining constant speed on the Spyder to get both instruments to read the same; the GPS needing some time to lock in.

zumo

I put my Zumo 550 on the right handlebar...easy to see and it doesn't get in the way...accurate as I can tell...remember, you're using a satellite and the feed is not the speed of light, whereas your display is rather immediate...

I have found it very cool to use as I have speakers in my helmet from my bluetooth...scala rider 2...(I think that's what it is called)

I can listen to music (although I have to get the proper SD card...the Zumo takes HDSC but my computer only HD), can use the phone, and can use the navi...very cool combo!

I agree that the Zumo shows speed about 2-4 mph slower than the Spyder. Since I mounted my Zumo center, it hangs over the digital speed readout and I find myself looking at the Zumo speed indicator, I guess that even 5 mph faster if the Spyder is shows the true speed is not a big deal when speeding on the Interstate.

But I can officially brag I went 115 mph when I was only going 100 mph:2thumbs:

'Morning everyone! My Zumo 450 has arrived! :) And, it looks like I'll be mountng it by the clutch lever method.

What is the best way to hardwire the power? Anyone have any photos of theirs installed?

Thanks!!

The way it was.

I powered the Zumo through the Evoluzione Powerbus that I installed. I think NoMagicNeon has a similar product. Others have made their own power distribution bus. Its nice to install some type of power distribution as you can easily wire in a number of powered devices to a central location, have them each fused and have all devices turn on and off with the Spyder key.

If you want to use all of the features of the 450, you will want to wire it direct to the battery with an inline fuse so the counters on the ZUMO keep ticking when you are off the bike for average speed, time, etc.

Also nice to be able to use the ZUMO sitting on the Spyder to maintain full ZUMO battery strength while using it without having to turn the key on. It will drain the Spyders battery but would take awhile before it would effect the battery strength. You will need to remember to turn it off however, if the Spyder will sit for a long time without being used.
