• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Zumo 660 Lifetime Maps

I got my RT limited in April and logged in to Garmin and did all the updates to firmware and maps. I thought that it did not have lifetime maps since it was not purchased from Garmin and it was not a Zumo 660LM. Yesterday I connected to Garmin to see if there was any updates for firmware and it installed the latest maps no problem. I guess we have lifetime maps on the BRP version of the Zumo 660. Just thought if there is someone out there that thought the same as me about the lifetime maps they might want to give it a go and see if they can update theirs. This might not be new but it saved me from purchasing the lifetime map update package.

I guess you guys are right, but this was the second map update I have gotten in an 8 month period. Maybe just the first year.

660 discontinued

The 660 model has been discontinued for a year or more. My thinking is, BRP is going to have to run out of the old model eventually and start shipping the 660LM.

If you want to know for sure what model you have, just take out the battery and the label will show if you have the 660 or the 660LM.

If you want to get the lifetime maps it is usually cheaper to buy it from anybody but Garmin. I bought mine from gpscity and it was 20 bucks cheaper at the time. There are multiple sellers of the Garmin Lifetime Maps so it may be worth the effort of a few mouse clicks to shop around.

What is the latest update

I picked up a used 2012 RT with a 660 that had never been registered/updated. I was able to go online and update but I believe it was a 2012 version.

They wanted $89 for lifetime updates. Does that sound right?

Yes, That sounds right, I got a life time up date for one of my Garmin's and it is worth getting , if you do two map up dates with it it pays for it self vs just buying a single year up date.

Take Care,
Bob

zumo 660

Thanks for that info because I thought that I had to pay for the lifetime maps too. The zumo is telling me to update now. Bought mine in september 2012. I know that the cheaper garmins come with lifetime map updates. As much money as these zumos cost we should have the same benefit.

ooh yeah

got my spyder new April 2012 and still got the free map update--gggrrreeeat .thanks for sharing this info. !:firstplace:

You must be referring to the 665LM. I had a Zumo 550 with lifetime updates and it is still good on my 665LM. (XM4 antennae with WX, XM radio and traffic)

I was refused a free update in July (purchased the bike used), today I plugged it in and got a free update. German & BRP may have changed the up date policy. :dontknow:
