There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Zumo 660 alternatives?

Has anyone yanked the GPS system from their RT-L? What did you fill the spot with?

I am not a fan of stand-alone GPS units and would like to use Waze on my Android phone instead, but the integration of the Zumo into the RT-L Spyder system makes it tricky. Ideally, I would like to mount my phone where the Zumo 660 sits and use it like I do in my truck - Waze, podcasts/music, phone calls - without all the reconnections and re-pairing that I seem to have to deal with on the Spyder.

I have the Sena 10S in my helmet, and I am getting "Phone reconnected" notifications every few minutes.

2012 RT GPS

I just bought a used 2012 RT LTD. It has the GPS bracket but no GPS. Is the 660 the only unit that will fit the bracket? I really don't want to buy a new one looking for a used replacement. Thanks

If you have the complete bracket then any GPS can be made to fit. Any model and any brand. But I suspect what you mean by bracket is BRP's bracket and a Garmin GPS powered mount. If that is the case then a Garmin Zumo 660, 660LM, 665 or 665LM will fit. But I think some features of the 665 will not work with that mount.

Change it for a Garmin 665LM, add the XM40 antennae and you will have XM radio. There is a plug in for the XM ANT on the harness just below the fuel tank. You will need a subscription for XM radio. With one slight change to the cradle the 665 will fit and work on the 660 cradle.

Jack,
What is involved in that, "one slight change"?
I have to admit that the possibility of XM radio in a more useful location has merit!

I posted it about two years ago here. I will search. It has been a long time since I have done it and I believe You take the small screws out of the cradle that hold it to gather and plug one wire into an alternate source. Thats it. When Spyder radio is on it will play through speakers unless bluetooth is on.

 Cool! :2thumbs:

Further update: You actually trade the top of the 665 cradle and install it on the bottom of the 660 existing cradle. Can't remember but I believe you may change a small card on the inside. 4-6 very small screws. If you have a radio (RT) you already have the entertainment harness. XM40 antennae plugs in adjacent to the gas tank into the entertainment harness on the right side. Entertainment harness for the 660 or the 665 is the same. (part #010-11270-03) You do not need to change it.

Jack we need to clear up some things I don't understand that you are saying. The connection of the GPS to the radio does not need the Entertainment Harness. The Entertainment Harness is only required for a CB option or XM option from BRP. Are you saying you are connecting to the radio in some nonstandard way. Or are you calling some other cabling the Entertainment Harness. Also if you make the changes to the Garmin/BRP mount for the 665 XM radio function to work. Then if the GPS harness is connected to the radio through the regular GPS connection. The output from the speakers will be mono. Both sides the same. Not a blended mono either but one channel just disappears. Found that out when I tried to use the 660 as a music player.

PS I googled the part number you listed. That is the Garmin motorcycle mount for the 660 and 665 not an entertainment harness. That's just confusing.
