• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I know many of you have purchased the ZUMO 550. I just did today for 400.00 couldn't turn it down even though it was used. I have a question. When using the XM radio function can it be used via bluetooth or does it have to be used by plugged wire. I dont know if I should buy a new helmet with bluetooth or just buy a headset that plugs into the unit..Anyone with expierence with this unit please help....

I used a 550 for a couple of years on my Goldwing and am now figuring out how to use it on my RT. As far as I know, the XM only works when plugged into your helmet. The bluetooth function works very well with your cell phone.

Blue Tooth/Garmin 550

I have used the bluetooth feature on my 550 with my cell phone and Nolan bluetooth helmet. When playing the MP3 player you don't have stereo (only mono). I have not used the bluetooth with XM but my understanding is that anything tranmitted from your 550 (wireless) will be mono. Without going to the expense of some of the new electronics options to get you stereo bluetooth (which are not cheap) you might want to consider ear plugs/phones. When you use the 3.5 mm jack on the 550 you will have stereo. This is what I do and frankly the wire isn't an issue since hopefully you never leave your seat and if you do you have more to worry about than your wire.

If you want the ultimate ear plugs/stereo phones Google S-Plugs. These aren't cheap but they not only give you great sound, they keep out the wind noise better than anything I have ever experienced. :2thumbs:

Ducman,
Thanks! After reading filtering through some previous post. I think I am going that route. I really dont care about answering while riding frankly Im not that important. I think they make wireless earphones. Im wondering if they would work?

The Zumo will transmit the XM via Bluetooth--- but it will be MONO. You can add a Stereo Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the headphone plug and then buy a stereo bluetooth helmet set.

The adapters can be had for around $50. The stereo helmet kits can be had for under $200.

I've spent close to $1000.00 on earbuds in the last couple of years and for the money you can't beat these. I have 4 sets now just to have a set in all my rides and a backup. They all go bad after a while, even the big money earbuds. These sound great and so far I have yet to have a set go bad.
