Well here we go again, we are on the storm train here in Vermont! Today we had heavy, wet snow (this heavy wet snow took everyone by surprise) and it is the first day of Spring!
We had a messy localized winter storm moving across the area this afternoon and evening, bringing moderate to heavy snow to Northern areas with snow accumulation quickly impacting Friday evening's commute and school dismissal. They issued a Winter Weather Advisory which remains in effect until 11 PM (EST). Following this system, they are watching another similar messy Winter setup developing for Sunday that could bring another round of snow and rain for the others. The roads will be slippery and I am keeping an eye on Sunday's forecast as conditions unfold.
Tonight will bring temps in the low 20's with Northerly winds at 6 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts will be light through the evening.
Saturday, the temps will be in the upper 30's, with mostly sunny conditions expected throughout the Saturday with Northerly winds at 8 to 11 mph. The roads will gradually improve as the sun angle helps clear accumulated snow from Friday's event. Temps will steadily climb through the morning and into the afternoon, but remain below normal for late March.
Night time temps will be in the low 20's. Increasing clouds develop late with a 50 % chance of snow showers developing after 2 PM (EST). New snow accumulation will be light, under 1/2 inch.
Sunday, temps will be in the upper 30's, they are forecasting rain and snow as the next storm system approaches from the West. We'll have mostly cloudy skies with Southeast winds at 6 to 8 mph becoming more Northerly in the afternoon. This will be a messy precipitation event, with the precipitation type dependent on elevation and latitude. The valley may see rain and wet snow, while higher elevations will favor snow.
Night time temps will be in the upper 20's A chance of rain and snow continues with mostly cloudy skies. Snow to rain transition line will be elevation dependent.
Monday, temps will be in the upper 30's with a chance of rain and snow. Mostly Cloudy skies with Northerly winds at 11 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 %. Night time temps will be in the low teens with mostly cloudy skies.
Tuesday's temps will be in the upper 30's with mostly sunny skies. This will be a brief break in the active weather pattern. A 30 % chance of snow develops after 2 am (EST) Tuesday night's lows will be around 24 degrees.
Wednesday and beyond, we'll see unsettled conditions continue mid-to-late week, with a series of quick moving systems. Wednesday will bring a 30 percent chance of snow with mostly cloudy skies and the highs will be near the upper 30's. Another chance of snow develops Wednesday night, with lows around the upper teens. Thursday brings a 50 % chance of rain and snow, with highs near 38 degrees as a week system moves through. Temps will struggle to reach above normal through the extended period, with lows generally in the low to mid 20's. The active pattern continues into early next week with additional system possible.
