Hi mikeinco,
Re: state controlled by Dem. progressive's.
HORSE PUCKEY!!!!!!
This has not one thing to do with any Dem or Rep. It only has to do with state law.
Here in Oregon, the plates stay with the vehicle when it is sold; with certain exceptions.
I just sold a pickup. I had veteran's plates on it. The buyer was not a veteran. The state DMV would not let him keep the veteran's plates, he had to buy new plates.
He, graciously, sent them to me & I now have them on my replacement vehicle.

His beef is with the SELLER, not the DMV.
Having to catch up on back registration fees is normal procedure in most, maybe all, of the states.
Well, I'm not sure. It sounds too reasonable... .:joke:I think that was what I was saying, but to be sure, you should check with Pete.
How about that 1998...is it stock? We have a 1997 stock.South Carolina has the best DMV I ever used. You walk in, someone greets you and asks what you need. They then give you the correct forms and a number. You sit down with a clipboard, fill out the f:claprms and wait for your number to be called. In and out in about an hour.
If it was an inoperable vehicle and not ride on the roads you should be able to get an exemption for back fees.Wow.. dealer of the insurance totaled 2010 rs came through.
Sent me a statement of facts. And said I should only have to pay from when I took possession of the spyder.
Thanks for all the support and entertaining posts
Of course DMV hasn't accepted the letter yet:bowdown:

Ok let's compare:
North Dakota Population: 755,000
California Population: 40 Million
Sacramento Region: 1.4 Million
I would imagine that it might take a bit longer at the DMV in California when yiu consider that one mid-sized town in California is twice the size of the entire state of ND. I have found that if I make an appointment, I am in and out in 1/2 hour or less.
Well, there goes that hate California bureaucrats argument. The DMV can be awesome if you use common sense and SET AN APPOINTMENT in advance! Sure you may not get an appt for a few days to a couple of weeks but hell that beats going there and waiting around for hours and then bitching about it.... Poor planning on a persons' part does make it an emergency on theirs!
I had a 12:30 appt today, got there 15mins early, checked in, waited all of 2 mins, got called and was done by the time my 12:30 appt time rolled around!
We lived in Mesa, AZ back in the 80's. We sold a vehicle to a person through a private transaction. In AZ at the time, the tags went with the vehicle and it was the buyer's responsibility to transfer them. Sometime after the tags expired, we got a notice from the state saying that our vehicle had been found abandoned near Sky Harbor and that we owed the cost of towing and storage for the vehicle as well as for renewal of the outdated registration. I had to prove to them that we had sold it over a year previous by showing them the bill of sale. We sure were glad that that "little piece of paper" didn't get lost or we would have had to pay quite a few green rectangles for that episode!

Not poor planning on anyones part.. here in bakersfield first available apt. with in 50 miles was 1 month out... you may want to wait a month to ride something you worked on for a month. I however did not..
Plus I planned my DMV trip.. showed up 45 min. Before opening. With coffee and a book on tape. With all my required paperwork to include insurance , vin ck. Brake and light.
My complaint was being charged a penalty on something I felt I wasn't involved with and the fact that I had to wait in line again either to fix or to pay since I only brought a grand with me.
So wasn't BITCHING about MY INITIAL WAIT. I was Stateing a fact that I had done my due diligence. Ok. I just reread my initial thread, I guess I was a little colorful talking about the person that helped me. But she did have a little smirk and didnt seem to want to even consider other options.
I was only looking for advice on the licensing situation,. Not the DMV. Which is an issue in most states
But really. DMV can be awesome......what. words escape me.
I have gotten a lot of great advice here and some snarky comments that I can appreciate and even laugh at. But...
You know I retyped a few different comments... but maybe you just had a bad day...so hope you feel better.
