• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. WTF

His beef is with the SELLER, not the DMV. Having to catch up on back registration fees is normal procedure in most, maybe all, of the states.
I agree. The outrage is misplaced. Why is it always easier to blame the government? Sure does shift the blame away from the blamer.

Ok let's compare:

North Dakota Population: 755,000
California Population: 40 Million
Sacramento Region: 1.4 Million

I would imagine that it might take a bit longer at the DMV in California when yiu consider that one mid-sized town in California is twice the size of the entire state of ND. I have found that if I make an appointment, I am in and out in 1/2 hour or less.

BINGO!

Phil, that's waht happens when you live in state controlled by Dem. progressive's. In Colorado you always take the plates off of whatever you sell that is licensed and the buyer has to go to DMV with the title and Bill of Sale to get temp tags or at least that is how its supposed to work. Sold a car onec and left the tags on, month later I get a bill for the toll road and in fighting it was told to take the tags off, ended up payinf the jerk's toll fee of $32.

Hi mikeinco,

Re: state controlled by Dem. progressive's.

HORSE PUCKEY!!!!!!

This has not one thing to do with any Dem or Rep. It only has to do with state law.

Here in Oregon, the plates stay with the vehicle when it is sold; with certain exceptions.

I just sold a pickup. I had veteran's plates on it. The buyer was not a veteran. The state DMV would not let him keep the veteran's plates, he had to buy new plates.

He, graciously, sent them to me & I now have them on my replacement vehicle.

Hi Jerry,

Not for arguments sake. Or political.

In PA. the registered plates are to the owner & vehicle. Sell vehicle, you transfer the plate to your new one or give it back (free) to PENNDOT.
I think the system works well.
This keeps a registered plate with a single owner.

Someone was a jerk, that's for sure.

Hi ameobe,

Re: In PA. the registered plates are to the owner & vehicle. Sell vehicle, you transfer the plate to your new one or give it back (free) to PENNDOT.

My roommate, when I was stationed in France & a very good friend for over 50 yrs, was from Michigan. He told me it was that way in Michigan.

I have no problem with how each state does it.

I do have a problem with blaming it on any political party; that is simply not the case.

It is usually about state revenue.

Vehicles are about the only thing that states collect sales tax over and over and over, for a used item. Well.. that and real estate.

Not true. Another broad generalization. Useless, uninformed opinion.

Pete, Again not here for arguing. But in PA. if a car is sold multiple times, PA sales tax applies. I am not much up on real estate, but being PA. yes, every sale.

Somewhere you said you bought it from an insurance company, no?

I think by 'dealer' Patti was thinking you meant a Can-Am dealer.

Pete I have said that also...so let me clarify.

I bought it from a dealer that only sells wretched bikes he buys from insurance companies. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I have a gift of gab , but a fat typing finger and i usually go with less is more when I'm typing. Ok I'm still long winded even when I try not to be

Phil you sound like a decent guy. Good luck with your project.

I do believe I've owned at least one wretched bike. It was easy to do an oil change on it, but everything else was a major pain. The bike was a conglomerate of used parts from previously totalled bikes.

Ca. DMV said since my totaled 2010 has been licensed since 2015.. I have to pay back registration fees and penalties totals $1,808. I told them, I just bought it from a dealer and had no control over the last 3 years. I was then pretty speechless because if I would have opened my mouth I couldnt guarantee anything but 4 letter words and I really wanted to slap that condisending little smile off her face. Sorry that's the law she said.

I almost paid but, it just didn't seem right. I did talk to the dealer and they said it sounded wrong to them and they would see what they could do......we will see if they come through. But if they do.. I still have a month wait for an appointment or like yesterday showed up at 7am for them to open at 8 and still didnt talk to the first dmv rep until 0930.

Dont you just love the California living?:barf:

Joe
