• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Would you buy one?

I dont think anyone has seen more than 5 of them. They are all demo's. I'm not sure they even have a marketable engine yet (last time I checked that is)...

I have driven a Slingshot - two seater, no top, all plastic body, (old tech) GM 4 banger, meager brakes, no heater, no windshield wipers, no airbags - but nice tunes, comfy seats, OK handling, seat belts & fun to drive. Yours for either $19K without tunes or windshield, or $22K with. That's 3 Elios... without license or taxes (for those of you who have to pay it) quack quack...

A Velomobile with electric assist is $8,500, plus $300 shipping. A decent 650cc+ ATV is over $7K.

I'd like to believe it, but I don't think the Chinese could build the Elio for under $7K, and have it last longer than an electric kiddie car...

So, no, I wouldn't fish in now.

Still waiting...

Elio has been floating around for years...this is supposed to be the year it happens..!! Still:popcorn::popcorn:'ing... But I wouldn't buy one even with someone else money....:roflblack::roflblack: just feel that at that price it will be junk...jmo..

I also looked at the elio. Checked into it and didn't get a warm and fuzzy. I just retired and for messing around town and rainy weather I just picked up a used smart car. I know it has four wheels but the gas milage i get is great and I don't plan on taking a trip in it. For planned family vacations I'll tow the smart behind the motor home. When just the wife and I take off I'll trailer the RT behind the motor home and use as a day runner.Either way I'm covering the bases.:doorag:

The guy trying to bring the Elio to the market has a huge, uphill climb. It isn't easy to start an auto manufacturing business. There have been more failures than successes. Unfortunately, even the best ideas flounder without sufficient financial backing. He reminds me of a guy named Jim Bede. He designed small aircraft, but was never very successful in getting his business ventures that would market small, homebuilt aircraft to be successful, even though he had great designs . . . His Bede-5 was an awesome design . . . but never was a financial success. Here is a picture of one.

Well. They have gotten 3/4 of their financing in order which bodes well. The 84MPG claim isn't reality yet. Elio is claiming they have achieved 81.4 MPG in current testing on the current design. CEO is also claiming that if they went to production right now the price would have to be $7300.

Recent article here:

I think Elio has a shot at being a reality. 40,000 people have put down deposits. $6800 is the target price for those early birds. In addition, where they are going to make $$$ on these or at least make up on low margin are the options. They have an infotainment/NAV system for the Elio that will bump the price up quite a bit.

The only problem I have with it is that in most state currently you would need a motorcycle license to drive one. That is a big hurdle for prospective owners that don't want to go through that hassle. Supposedly Elio is working hard to get individual states to classify the Elio as an AutoCycle, which would eliminate the need for an MC endorsement.

So... I think it is possible and by mid year I bet we'll have a better feel for where they are at with these. Would I buy one? I like them, but I barely drive my other vehicles enough or have a commute to work to worry about. If the aftermarket provides some performance tweaks to them I might want one.

My short answer: NO!

Another thread currently running.

Elio production moved up again to 2016. I believe we are on year six now.

Has obtained financing of $65 million. Needs another $230 million they say.

Claim to have 38,000 deposits.

Recommend you do not hold your breath.

Kinda like DeLorean. But his problem was that he was snorting much of the funds, instead of managing the business.

Some former Spyder owners have said similar of their trikes - that they are junk. And I don't blame em.

Alas..!!

Key word being "former" do feel for them for they spent a good amount of money...so in recapping..better spend a little for junk than a lot knowing that better quality is always cheaper....:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.....just saying...
