• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

words today ...................... what do they mean?

To the OP, this is why Mike is correct:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycles/definition-of-a-motorcycle.htm

Since this was directed at me, let me say I thought I made it pretty clear that the post wasn't about the Slingshot. Another example could be the definition of a marriage. It used to mean a union between a man and a women, and now it's a man and a women, a man and a man, or a women and a women. Along those lines, how can a women be listed as a Father on a birth certificate? Just stop a moment and think of the changes made in our society in the past few years. And no, I'm not prejudiced, or racist, I take people as they come, don't care what color they are, ore who they mate with, or what they eat.

But there is a lot of chatter on here about reading the question, or thread before answering. Did we really not care what I asked? As far as the Slingshot goes, buy one if you like it, take it for a test ride, do what ever you want. But why talk about it on a Spyder forum? That applies to a good number of subjects.

It looked to me like you were blaming the news media for changing definitions, in particular the motorcycle. That's why I referred to the article linked in my post.

"There was a 2 page spread, and all they could talk about was the new 3 wheeled motorcycle called the "Slingshot", raved about the steering wheel and side by side seating. Is my peeve about the Slingshot? Surprisingly no, but more about how the news media is changing the definition of words in the English language."

I will say that your post #21 is much clearer than post #1. All I can say is- "the times they are a changin'."

Okay Bob D., throw the Bob Dylan song up.

That pretty much sums it up. They report things the way they want, even if it is obvious that it isn't true. Then repeat it enough times that it becomes the norm, and instead of people standing up and correcting them, it's just accepted. If you don't think that it is causing problems, then I might as well crawl back under my rock. No wait, I have a better idea, I'll just go burn some more miles while I can. Thanks for letting me rant, but I can't say I feel any better for it.

I ride with a friend who has had one for about six months. He likes it but no baggage space and little WX protection. FYI, it could not be titled in Texas as they did not know what to call it....then someone in the DOT said Autocycle....and that is what the state now calls it for title purposes. What do other states call it?

ps I had a great ride today with my group....it was a little cool (40) and windy, but we had great food at the Fredericksburg, TX airport cafe....

I think it's worse than that - the news media ISN'T just 'reporting' things the way they want, more & more they are pretty much 'creating' or at least putting a spin on stories that they then present as a report..... So as you noted, they've effectively changed what the word 'report' means. :sour:

These days, it's all about the spin that they can put on events in the interest of grabbing attention &/ratings, advertising time, or whatever rather than about looking for the truth in an event - and like you, it peeves me something horrid. So I'm gonna go riding too!

Really ?

Somewhere back in the part of the 70's that I remember, there was a saying "A wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse".

That phrase came from 16th century merry olde England. It was just a way of you telling someone what they just said was meaningless.

In CT, for registration purposes, the Slingshot is defined as an "autocar", because you sit in it, and it has a steering wheel. The Spyder is defined as a motorcycle, because you sit on it, and it has handlebars.
