This sort of thing is becoming increasingly possible, as the American Alligator comes back from the brink of extinction . . . if you live in it's range, you don't wander up to the edge of bodies of water like that, anymore! Males get up to 15 feet in length, and in 1890, one was reported to have been measured at 19 feet in Louisiana! A 17.4 ft alligator was killed in Florida, and the one in this photo is 13.5 inches!

By the way I have 5 of them within 150ft of my back yard one is at least 12ft and he keeps away. The small ones (4-8ft) are the trouble makers keep chasing the bass I catch to my dock I had to drop my pole and run once one was coming in hot and too close for my comfort.:yikes:
