Winter Riding

I ride all winter but only mandatory test rides around town (MN) and perhaps a few miles of highway if the roads are dry. Two wheels can be a real thrill when the roads are icy but 3 is not bad. Worst part is being stuck at a stop light with the rear wheel just spinning away.
Every day is a new adventure :banghead:

I rode 140 miles today. I left home this morning it was 26 degrees and I rode into Omaha, NE and long way home around noon. When I got home it was 33 degrees. I had on First Gear over pants and heated liner with heated gloves. I have a real heavy BMW coat with liner in it. I never got real cold. As long as it stays dry no salt on the roads I will ride.

snow riding

Today I did some snow riding.
To be honest... It was fun, but the spider (with normal tires) is NOT made for snow riding hahahaha.

I got stuck a couple of times, and after 30 minutes of fun there was suddenly a loud CLICKING sound in the engine.
It was there every 4 seconds..
I drove backwards about 200 meters (no sound) stopped the engine en started it again. Then it was gone.
I think may be a little stone in the belt??? Really no idea.

After 40 minutes (on my way home) the motor managment light start lighting up....
When i came on a bigger road and drove a little bit faste 20mph it went out.

Didn't feel unsafe at all.
But when there was more than 15 cm snow, it was not possible to drive faster than 8 mph, just no grip at all.
But it was a great experience.

Whenb the snow is gone this week (thats allways really fast here in Holland) I will clean my spider and put it in the garage again.
I dont think I will take it again with the snow. May be with a snowchain. But I think that will not happen

BUT I have taken to putting the :joke::joke::joke: symbol up because my attempts at humor ( usually sarcasm ) are feeble at best some may be deeply offended.

OH-----and BTW: black ice up here at almost 6,000 ft. is really the pits. Winter tires or not, black ice sucks and it does matter.

Yes it does.

I was reacting to another post about hoodies and a members reaction to it. THe black ice thing is funny but someone will find it degrading and offensive but it's funny----- if your not sliding your car or truck towards a big pine tree or a 20 ft. deep gully. ( don't ask me how I know thisnojoke)

:agree: I ride here in Ohio until the local safetycrats put salt on the roads. That stuff is just plain nasty and cleaning it off my bikes is a lot of work.

I put my bike in hibernation before they put salt/brine on the roads. Then I go into an other winter sport, and then back to riding the spyder in the spring.

The term "black ice" as many of us have mentioned it, is talking about ice that is on the road and cannot be seen until it is to late. It blends into the asphalt. Under proper lighting, the road will take on a shine.

Very common in states where they use little to no salt or gravel. A motorists nightmare. :thumbup:
