I am considering a calsci windshield for my 2014 Rt. I have the stock 25" shield. do any of you have a calsci on your RT? I am wondering if they are worth paying 200+ for. Also don't know what size to get.I was thinking maybe the Xl size. If I was to get the large. when I get caught in a rain, would I get more water over the top of the 23", or would it make any difference? I am 5'8" tall. Don't know if I need the taller one or not.for those that have the calsci,do you think they are much improvement over stock? Thank's for your input and suggestion's. I thought of one more thing, have any of you tinted your shield, about maybe half way up. Thank's again.

In my opinion (and that's all that it is!); it's better to not try and tuck in behind a windshield in the rain...
You'll be looking through two rain-covered hunks of otherwise clear plastic: your visor, and the shield!
I drop my windshield down low, and let the air currents take most of the rain up and over me. If I need to "clean" the visor off: I just turn my head to the side, and the wind takes all of the droplets off!

I don't know anything about the Calsci windshield, but I had the same questions when I upgraded to my F4 Custom vented windshield. The OEM windshield has a lot to improve upon, so for me the upgrade was well worth the money.

As for height, like Bob, I like to sometimes lower the windshield so that I have a clear view over top of it - especially in the summer. I'm 6' 2" tall, and for me the standard 25 inch height offers full shielding , yet allows me to do that when the windshield is lowered to its lowest position. If you do not have a clear view over the top of your windshield when it is in the lowest position , you might find that you would enjoy one that is a bit shorter.

I bought a Cal Sci for my RT and really like it. It reduced the buffeting a lot. I bought a size that would equal the height of the OEM windscreen. Doing it again, I would get one about 1.5 inches shorter. I'm 6 foot and when I want the extra coverage, the RT's adjustment would be sufficient.
Let us know what you decide.

Lin

I actually trimmed about 2" off the top of my stock windshield (2010 RT). I use my windshield for colder temps, but otherwise it's pretty much down all the way all the time. For me it creates the right wind flow in the down position. I am 6' tall. I'm with the previous poster who said to leave it down in the rain and let the wind blow the water off. I hate looking through the windshield when it's clean, let alone full of droplets and bug guts. Just my personal opinion....not worth much..lol

Windshields by F4 Customs

This is Don Frank from F4 Customs.
We manufacture 3 different sizes for the RT and them come in Clear or Tint and you can get it with the vent or no vent.
Height is a matter of rider preference. As the owner of F4 I prefer to look through our windshield as they are optically perfect, shed rain and are Highly Scratch Resistant. Therefor giving the best ride for myself and the co-rider.
If you ride a lot at night and you are going to look through we suggest clear.
We always recommend the vent as it helps reduce the back pressure and get that air in when you need it. This is an adjustable vent.
All of the F4 Customs windshields are manufactured from High Optics Polycarbonate so they will not break or crack if hit by a rock or retread.
If we can help in any way give us a call at 330-968-4644

I ordered a Calsci XL XW shield last week for my ST. Got it on Friday and had it on for a ride on Saturday. Once I got it on I realized it was way to tall. All the way down, I could just see over it and I'm 6'3". On the way to gas up I saw that it was cracking out of several of the mounting holes. When I make a full turn, my hands and grips would hit the shield. We turned around to go home to reinstall the OEM shield. It had cracked at all 4 holes. There is a sticker on it that says to not over tighten the screws or it will crack. It says no more than 4 pounds or just wrist tight. I was very careful to not over tighten the screws but it still cracked. I called them and they just changed that shield to have grommets in the holes. They are sending me a new one But I requested the next shorter size. If I were a RT owner, I would go with F4 shields, but they do not offer one for the ST. I wish they did, I like their tinted shield. Calsci has one they call a tinted shorty but it is too dark and not much bigger than stock.

I had a 2010 with one of those "barn doors" in front of me also. :D
They were 27" tall. By trimming 2" off the top; you brought it back down to the current 25" standard height screen.
I swapped mine out for a stocker off of the 2013 RT. The twin vent holes in the corners really did help to reduce buffeting.

Hello every one. Thanks for all your input on the windshields. I just decided what to do, I ordered an F4 customs. I know some will not, agree with the size, I ordered the tall wide,Tinted&vented. I ride with the stock completely up most of the time, it kind of splits my vision, so that is why the tall. as for the tint, I only ride at night, for short distance's, if I accidently get caught out after dark. I thought I would go for the poly carbonate F4 customs because you don't have to use any special cleaner, just windex and paper towels. Also the they don't scratch as easy and have a more clear view, and Don't break as easy. I will let you know how I like when I get it installed, and a few miles on it. Again thank you.

Thanks for your order. The F4 Team!

I just ordered a clear stock wide with vent as well. As it has to cross the border I have no idea when it is going to get here.

Wind shield

I cant contribute any new or relevant info but I do have a shorty RT-S shield I would like to trade for a standard size Rt one. wink wink

Installed the F4 Stock Wide with Vent yesterday. I really, really like this shield. Blocks the wind off of my elbows and shoulders.

Just watched a video on youtube by national cycle. Polycarbonate vs acrylic windshields. Very impressive! Does anyone know what the can am factory windshields are made of? Might even be stamped in the plastic. Thanks.
