• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Now, you've got the comprehension thing down, Brian. :D

.

Bottom line is, by Marcel not contacting ataDude for whatever reason, he has probably cost himself at least one and possibly many future sales. I don't think ataDude was wanting warranty repair, right? He only wanted information to see what solutions there are to remedy a problem. Marcel may not have had any legal obligation to do anything for ataDude's used F1 but he's lost quite a bit in a customer's (or a potential customer) opinion by not responding.

my 2 cents

A phone call or an e-mail goes a long way even if It is to listen to the problem and then tell him I am sorry but there is nothing I can do in this situation.

There is an old statement that says for every one dissatisfied customer ten people will hear about it, and for every satisfied customer no one will hear.

I would like to believe that this has changed a little. This forum is a great platform for people to voice there opinion, weather it is good or bad. I think that there is just as many good reports here if not more that bad.

I also think that as the Spyders numbers grow and the SPYDERLOVERS community grow it will Help keep dealers and suppliers honest with there customers and they are always welcome here to give there opinion.

Just my 2 cents

... As always, there are two sides to the story and we're only hearing one.

It's real easy to trash somebody on the internet and honestly, Marcel shouldn't lose a sale based on one sided information. It's a shame that for some people, one complaint carries more weight than dozens of happy customers.

Now...these are only my opinions, nobody needs to get their panties wadded up over them.

True statement. If you want another side of the story, go to Marcel's forum. There is a lot of venom spewing over there on this topic. :( :dontknow:

Marcel and his forum are wrong in this case.

There's that one little piece of information that got left out here, isn't there... :coffee:

Can you provide the link to Marcel's forum? I've googled marcel's forum, f1 slider and other things and can't come up with his forum.

Thanks

One more thing for us to think about when making windshield decisions, watch this video. Thanks for turning me onto this ataDude.

I agree wholeheartedly. Lexan (polycarbonate) shields are far stronger, especially in an unsupported and less formed (curved) application like a bike shield. The Spyder shield is also very thin, by comparison to some bikes, making shield strength even more important. Don't let the style be your only deciding factor.

I thought this difference in the plastics was commonly known but thanks for the good demo video in case there are some who didn't know. Bullet proof windows have been made out of thicker polycarbonate for many years now.

I can't imagine that anyone would make a windscreen out of any plastic other than polycarbonate. Is there one that is acrylic, and which one is it?

Wow, impressive. Add to that the F1 Slider has 2 metal bars pointed at the rider.

Who makes a polycarbonate windshield for the Spyder?

After all of this bruhaha, which I inadvertently started, I did some research last night. You, on your own, can google "polycarbonate versus acrylic" and find hundreds, if not thousands, of references and comparisons.

One of the things I immediately noticed was that the cost of polycarbonate is 2-3 times the cost of acrylic... thus a difference in the ultimate price to the consumer.

You can search each company's web site for information concerning the material used. Update: I just reinstalled the CHAD and it's engraving says "Lexan"... polycarbonate.

I still can't believe all of this started because of a phone call... or lack thereof.

I was simply looking for a promised phone call (see below) and three attempts to get it is two too many.

End of story. Believe it or not... I don't care. No more entries from me will be forthcoming on this thread... this is worse than discussing oil. :yikes: :banghead:

Sensitivities are being unjustly trampled! Libelous disparagement of multiple participants character! Grade school level critical thinking skills, AND...it kicked off a thread to be locked on a completely different forum!

Anymore of this, and we'll have to call in Dr. Phil! The Internet...seeeeeerious business.

Tell you what ataDude, knock the cobwebs off some of that personal wealth and ride the Spyder down to Daytona next week. I'll see if I can't scrape together enough nickles to buy you lunch....just to show you there's no hard feelings. Seriously.

If you're ever in the neighborhood, I'll take you up on the beer. However, Daytona, or Sturgis or any of the large group thingies, have never been on my bucket list. I hate riding in, and around, large groups. Four to five is about it. Riding in large bike groups with mixed skills are one of the more dangerous things you can do, IMHO. :yikes:

Here's a really good example of large groups gone mad:

In any case, thanks!

What's a man worth millions doing buying a second-hand windshield, then calling the manufacturer about a possible "defect". Yes, maybe Marcel should have called you as a courtesy, but he didn't. Seems like the implication here is that you are saying the windshield was sold with the defect to the first owner and you want some satisfaction. Maybe what you should have done is call the person you bought it from. Used is used, I can't see what is so hard to understand about that. If you buy a used Ford from someone, and after a few days you find that the wipers don't work, are you going to call Ford Motor Company and demand to be made whole? I don't think so...

i have f1 slider and my first slider was defective and marcel replaced it.
i was very upset with him in the beginning after i did not receive the original windshield for very long time after i placed order. i called many times and posted on canamtalk.com. after a while i realized that they are still mom and pop kinda company and they were still running their business the old fashion way. They are not so efficient and not alot of messages get returned at least none of mine did and marcel i think over-stretches himself because he wants be hands on. when i did get to talk to him after many tries about my defective slider he said he will ship me a replacement and don't even bother to send old one back. Easiest solution i could ask for.

I do like their product but their efficiency have lots of room for improvement. Marcel IS hard to get in touch with but once you do I have only heard of things getting resolved easily as mine was.
