Wind noise for 2015 RT-S Special Edition

I am going to look at a 2015 Can-Am Spyder® RT-S Special Series SE6 today. The price is excellent to begin with and hopefully is will be even better as I will be using two spyder as trade ins (one completely paid for). My only concern is that is has the sport windshield and the associated wind noise. When I ride my RSS, the noise is very pronounced and my thoughs are the the noise will be similar.

Comments anyone?

Don't let that stop you....

Isn't the sport windshield only a few inches shorter than stock? If so then I would guess that the sport windshield raised up fully would be comparable to the stock shield lowered. I'm 6'3 and do get some wind noise when I have the shield low on the highways, so that math be something to think of. But it is also pretty easily remedied with a stock windshield upgrade, I've seen quite a few in here for sale at great prices and the install looks real user friendly as well.

I bought the same year and model Spyder, first thing I did was order a 23" windshield. Then sold the stock shield.

I have the 2015 RT Limited

I just purchased a 2015 RT limited, first Spyder I have owned. I have 1100 miles on it, 300 of them in the rain. Any bike is going to have some wind noise, I have to say that the Spyder wind noise to be lower that my Victory Vision, doesn't seem to be out of line with any other bike I've been on.

Ride Safe!

I haven't seen one SS with the stock shield still on it after delivery. Like Bob said negotiate the regular RT shield as part of the deal.

We have an RTS special se6. It came with a 16.5" windshield. Even full up I'm in the wind.

i'm 5-10, 30" inseam. My wife is 5-4 and, of course the back seat is a few inches higher. She doesn't complain about the wind, but her intercom mike has a lot of wind noise - really a lot.

The only comparison I have is 2010 RTS we rode for three days. It had a barn door stock windshield - 25" as I recall. No wind noise from her mike at all, and very little wind on either of us.

I just ordered a Calsci Large. 22", and 4" wider as I recall. I spoke with Mark at Calsci at length. The large may be taller than I want. If so, I'll get it sawed off.

I got a kick out of one of his comments on the website (paraphrased):
If you are under 35, go ahead and look around. You'll be back when you get older.

look into an F4 Windshield and you can thank me later
:agree: That's what I would do. I replaced my stock windshield with the stock size F4 with the large sized Honda adjustable vent. I love it. Here's a link. If you want the stock windshield instead, send me a PM. I might consider selling mine. They are easy to switch out.

Rob,
You mentioned that your F4 is the stock height; how about the width? :dontknow:
It's the stock width too, but shaped slightly different than the stock shield (a little fuller at the bottom). I didn't want the wide one. I just wanted to get the nice Honda vent and also get rid of those two holes in the front by the mounting brackets. Those "holes" didn't do a thing for ventilation and dirt kept getting in there under the Plexiglas.

Also, the picture above doesn't do the F4 justice - it's completely clear (and just a tad thicker than the OEM windshield). There's another picture in this post.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions......I called the dealer to discuss some specifics and suddenly they were not interested. I called a second dealer who was to work up a quote for me, but failed to call me back before they closed for the day.

I guess no one wants my money...........:dontknow:

I got rid of that sport windshield after riding from Phoenix to Dallas and back. Yes, there was a great deal of wind noise, not to mention the rain in my face, along with bugs etc.

I love the Special Series much more now that I have the F4 Customs tall and wide windshield.

RT-S Special Windshield

I'm 5'9" with a 32" inseam and ride with a full face helmet. With the stock windshield all the way up, I am out of the wind and it's a quiet ride IMHO. When it's raining ( in Salem Oregon? !) I put the windshield all the way down and the wind blast hits me in the helmet, clearing my visor. Works great! ;)

There is definitely much more wind on my 2015 RT-S SE with the shorter windshield than there was with my 2012 RT A&C. And I have more bugs and all the other negatives mentioned.

That said, it looks so darn good, I'm not changing it! And lest you think I'll change my mind when I ride it more, I've got > 11K miles on it already.

Windshield choice

HI folks Don Frank at F4 here. Thanks for the great comments on our shields. Here are some choices that will make a better ride.
We offer a "SPORT" F4 Customs windshield for the RT/RTS Models which is 22" tall for the rider that wants the "Sportier" look and wants to look over the top of the shield for the most part. You can purchase this in wide which is 2.5" wider per side and that does cut down on the side wind and helps the co rider.
We offer a
The F4 Customs STOCK WIDE windshield for the RT/RTS Models - If you are satisfied with the overall performance that your stock shield offers you, but would like to have more protection on your shoulders and body, then this is the shield for you. It retains the same height and angle of the stock shield but gives you 2.5" more width per side. ( this is also available in stock height and stock width)
Then we offer the PLS3 TALL WIDE Windshield for the RT/RTS models. It is for the ultimate protection for both the rider and co-rider. This shield is the shield of choice for folks who ride two up. This shield will provide great wind protection and greatly reduce head buffeting for the Rider and Co-Rider. The vent reduces buffeting and provides airflow in warm conditions.
All of these are offered in both clear and tint and with and without a vent. We highly recommend a vent for the stock and plus 3 models.
Hope this helps.
Merry Christmas to all.
