• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Wind Deflector Carbon Fibre Covering DIY Project

I have been looking for a way of altering the appearance of the upper and lower clear plastic wind deflectors on my RT, without resorting to purchasing chrome deflectors.

My first effort was to try and dye the plastic with black clothing tint but that ended up transforming the plastic to a lovely shade of light blue. A nice look if I had a blue RT but not the look I was going for on my black RT. Next, I tried using Nightshade lens tinting paint, but that just totally colored the deflector a glossy black. Looked OK but it tended to show the existing scratches on the deflectors.

Recently I installed the Black/Grey carbon fibre dash kit from Pete and I really liked the look of the carbon fibre on the dash. Got me to thinking that applying a matching carbon fibre wrap to the deflectors might be the way to go.

So, I ordered a small sheet of the 3D black/grey carbon fibre vinyl wrap (approximately $10.00 per sheet and available in many colors) off of an ebay supplier. Removed the deflectors from the RT and traced the outline on the back of the sheet. Cut the vinyl, peeled off the backing and applied to the previously cleaned front sides of the deflectors. As a final touch I painted the screw channels black to finish off the project. See attached pictures.

Total cost of this mod was less than $15.00 and I finally got the look I was going for.

Here are a collection of pictures showing a front view, side view and upper and lower deflector close ups. The front view also shows the blacked out windshield bracket that I had painted a few weeks ago along with the tinted headlight and turn signal film inserts available from Pete.

Wow, some great ideas there, good work on thinking out of the box. I especially like the black painted winshield bracket.

Looks great, much better than the clear and the black windshield bracket looks good also, had to take a second look.
