• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Will using a USB Data blocker between my phone/glove box USB only allow charging? Will apps such as iHeart Radio/Apple maps still work?

Hey all,
I see threads where members are using USB data blockers on their Spyders. I plug my iPhone 15 Pro Max into my glove box USB to charge. My question is this: If I use a data blocker between my phone/glove box USB, will it only allow charging? Will apps such as iHeart Radio/SiriusXM/Apple maps still work? Thanks for any info..

Not sure why you would need a data blocker on a Spyder. There's no internet connection on the Spyder's end, so nothing malicious is there to send to your phone.
**Hopefully**. Unfortunately, if it requires updates, there is always that chance. Yes, I prefer old school, with no apps required. A Map in the frunk (that you can stop to read) or a Stand alone Garmin 622, and an Aux headphone jack for MP3 or any other.

I worked in the firmare business my whole career. Manufacturers do take steps to secure firmware updates from being loaded with malicious code. Sure, there is a possibility, but I'd suggest its quite low. There are lots bigger targets out there than Spyders.

But it doesn't randomly connect to the internet.
You have to specifically tell it to connect to a WiFi network, and then it only connects to the BRP servers to check for updates.

I'd be more worried about your phone.

As long as you have cell phone service your phone will work as normal, the only thing that will be blocked is data from the Spyder.

Hey Troop, I used to use a data blocker to charge my phone and just bluetooth audio to the bike. The blocker was there so the computer didn't recognize my phone and "take over" through the BRP app - basically the bike didn't know the phone was connected, but my phone would charge.

I've since installed a CaruPride CarPlay screen and a Lamonster charging port, so I no longer use the port in the glove box.

Again **Hopefully**. As long as you only have access to “settings “ you don’t get to know. Not debating just understanding as some programming waits for connecting to dump/send what information has collected use-operations-errors- more

Does the Spyder store information about it's operation? Absolutely, which can be retrieved by connecting it to a BUDS/BUDS2 system, either at your dealer or if you purchase the appropriate device and license for the BUDS/BUDS2 software.

If you're worried about the Wifi and Bluetooth connections, then go into your Settings and delete them all.
Of course doing that also disables several things, like the use of Apple CarPlay, and the software updates you can download at home.

And what kind of information are you thinking that your Spyder is storing?
That you went to Wendy's for lunch instead of McDonalds?
Or stopped at a Shell station instead of a Mobil station to fuel up?
That you drove 75 MPH in a 70 MPH zone?

Sorry, but what you're suggesting is a pretty wild conspiracy theory.
