• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Why Rise in Motorcycle Deaths Hasn't Meant Tougher Helmet Laws

What to do? What to do? When I started riding in 1966 I bought a helmet after I (due to lack of experience) went through a ditch, 2 rows of corn and went over the handle bars and broke my collar bone and a mirror (the collar bone breaker). After I had the cast off, I fell crossing a wet railroad track and my head (in a helmet) bounced off the pavement several times. I got up laughing, picked the bike up, and continued on my way. I have worn a helmet for 46 years and wear it anytime and anywhere I go, no matter what the law is for whatever state I am riding in.
Should there be a law forcing us to wear a helmet? I think that law makes more sense than the ones telling us what we should eat and how much, what we should drink and how much. But then we all have our own opinions. As for me and my wife, we ride, we wear our helmets. Arguments for or against helmets are never resolved to anyone's satisfaction. So, in the end, do whatever you want about your head. After all, it's the only one you will ever have.
:roflblack:

I really don't think you can change a persons mind. The ones that choose to ride with or without will continue to do so. Some people mature quicker than others, and some never do. And as usual it's just my opinion.

You know I sort of shared this article because I was amazed at how few states actually have helmet laws. As a former New Yorker, where you can't breath without a union or permit, I found it interesting that so many other states just let people take responsibility for themselves. I have sat very quietly and watched. Not as bad as Monday and Tuesday, but really can't we just have a civil conversation with no insults?

Bob, yes its hot, my car told me it 98 degrees when I was coming back from lunch. That is way too hot!

There's alot of things that I can do in New York without a union or a permit...
I can pay my taxes... OR ELSE!!!
I can watch my civil liberties erode before my eyes... :gaah:
I can watch my Second Amendment Rights being attacked by a very Lberal left and their media shills. :yikes:
I can warch more of my taxes given to those people who do the least to deserve it.
And I can go take some Aspirin because now I've even given myself a headache! :gaah:

Bob, I think that would be Deja Vu. Don't you just love the grammar police.

I know you remember CSNY. Or did they come after your time?:roflblack:

Hey, he stole that quote from Yogi, So it could have been how Yogi spelled it.:dontknow:
:roflblack:

I agree althought I can not make these icons work for some reason.
I wear a helmet and long sleeves/jacket, long pants and boots when ever I ride. That is my choice, you make yours.
The "news ?????" is just baised crap. Slanted like H...
New York stories. The Mayor of New York is banning soft drinks over 16 oz in size to protect us. I have heard some horror stories about huge crminal acts of carring a pocket knife. Not doing anything, just carrying one. Sent straw buyer to other states to buy guns which is ilegal, nothing done.
I forget which of our wonderful goverment nannys decide to try and stop kid size motorcycle because they could eat the lead in the battery.

The nannys say ride a bycle instead.
if you can find them, look up bike accidents. They are the most dangerous method transportation around.
I think this is going to take a quart of Jack and a bottle of Advil.
Sorry to rant, but this has been going on for years.

stats

back in the seventies, when i first started riding, they said 75% of motorcycle fatalities were first year riders. that made sense. it probably is still true today. it's all about excessive speed and or alcohol use. does the phrase '' failed to negotiate a curve '' ring a bell ? if you don't speed (much ) or drink and ryde, ( never ) it seems to me that your chances of survival are much much better, helmet or not. now i realize there will always be D-BAGS in cars doing stupid things. if you anticipate these stupid things, your odds improve again, helmet or not. thirdly ( is that even a word ?) i'm not a kid anymore, and i realize that fact. when i go out for a ride, if i'm overly tired or find myself making little mistakes, i cut it short and go home. tomorrow's another day. p s .......... everyone should be an organ donor, there's no reason not to be.
