Why Buy a Spyder?

I've read many posts on this site where people have commented on the good and bad about the Spyders. I've been riding motorcycles since the early 70's and I must say that the Can-Am Spyder is the most enjoyable ride that I've been had. And I've had every brand from top of the line Triumphs on down. The spyder gives me a certain feeling that a motorcycle never gave, I feel safer, everyone watches out for you because when you ride by them they all stare. Can't get that on any 2 wheeler. You have plenty of storage, smooth ride and the classiest machine that you can truly enjoy what nature does best. I'm sold, hopefully others that aren't sure will give them a chance. They are impressive.

I agree. I have NO regrets with my purchase. I love being different, and having everyone look at me. You're just not gonna get that attention on 2 wheelers simply because of how many there are.

It's funny, I rode with my daughter's friend the other day when they were here visiting. She was on my Honda Shadow, I on my Spyder RS. Of course I got the usual stares and questions. She rode behind me most of the time, so got to see people turn their heads as I rode by. At the end of the ride, she said "geez, I'm used to getting attention being a woman on a bike, but with you being a woman on a Spyder? I'm now chopped liver!!" Cracked, me up. The attention is fun, no doubt. But the ride is what I love the best. It still gets better everyday. How is that possible?

You hit most of my points. IMHO, it is not quite as "fun" as a leaning two wheeler but....

1. It is more practical with decent storage.
2. It is more visible, both with a bigger visual profile and with its uncommon design.
3. Most importantly, my wife will let me have it. I broke two vertebrae in a bad accident a few years ago and have titanium holding bits together now. This was a compromise vehicle. More fun than a cage and I get to stay married to my wonderful wife.

You're absolutely correct. Went to Memphis and they couldn't stop taking pictures or asking questions. There were about 500 Harleys, crotch rockets & Goldwings & it didn't matter. The wife & I loved the attention & was proud to ride something that was different

Why buy a Spyder ?

I purchased my 2011 RTS/SE5 summer from "EAST COAST CYCLE CENTER" , Bensalem, Pa. I have loved every minute of riding. I too have had almost 50 cycles in my life and this one is the "Best of the Best." I was always worrying about falling over and making tight turns with all the heavy cycles. I now feel "Totally Safe" with the Spyder. I am not worried about going over metal bridges, riding in the rain or even going on backroads with some gravel around. Of course I don't want to get stones in my drive belt, so I normally avoid the gravel. The :spyder2: gets lots of attention everywhere I go. Most people haven't ever seen one, but many have seen the ads on TV from BRP. It is very visible because of its size. It has plenty of lights so it can be seen easily at night. The storage on the RTS is the best I have ever had. Four separate trunks for luggage. I keep my tire pressures at 18/28 and it handles beautifully. I will never replace this machine unless they someday come out with a 4 cylinder.

We love our Spyder, especially the brakes. Don't have to pick which extra gear we may need, room to take it all. Love the way it carries a passenger, and so does she.

Haha...I wonder if she still wants to ride with you. LOL

Earlier this week the salesperson from the Can Am dealer we deal with did me a favor and followed me as I brought my wife's RT home after service. She had major surgery on her right foot and it will be some time before she can exert any pressure on that foot, if ever. We had a hand brake added to make it easier for her to operate and while she is not yet ready to ride, she wanted to see and feel the results of the new addition.

As we pulled into the drive at my house, the salesman commented on how many people in other vehicles stared at her Spyder as we drove from the dealership to my house. He said he sees Spyders on the floor of the showroom all the time but this is the first time he actually got to see people react to one driving through town and then down the road.

He said it gave him a whole different perspective on the vehicle.

Don't get too comfortable with that. It's been known to happen that while staring at you, they come too close for comfort, even running someone into a ditch. But for the most part, I agree with you.

Started riding bikes in '69. In 2009 Got a GS sm5 (first three wheeler), just got a 2012 RT limited. Liked the GS - love the RT limited. Must I be getting lazy? No bike to hold up and now no clutch. Old age is great!!

"Why'd I get a Spyder" I get asked that pretty often anymore.
The best way that I've found to reply, is to tell them that the dealer was right next door to the insame asylum that I was sent to. When I escaped, it was the handiest thing to steal... :roflblack:

I think many people entering SpyderLovers for the first time read the comments and are put off by all the adverse criticism. Here's a message of a different flavour that in a small way helps to redress the balance. Sounds good to me...

It is kinda fun getting all the attention when there are a lot of different bikes around. My buddies on two wheelers always joke about allowing extra time on our rides because of all of the attention the Spyder gets with people wanting to look at it and talk with me. My wife and I had the same kind of attention on a cross country trip last year on the Spyder, it was hard to get away from almost every gas stop! I am like you, seems I have always been different, I never have cared about having something just because it is what everyone else has. maybe it has something to do with being left handed. I think I'll start a thread: How many spyder riders are left handed? :roflblack:

Bruiser and I bought the first Spyder in 2010. He knew I would ride because of the three wheels. Never having ridden any kind of 'bike', I was very comfortable as passenger with Bruiser. He had many motorcycles in the past, and is a great 'driver'. As I've stated before, he made the mistake of asking me if I wanted to learn how to ride. At first I was hesitant, never thought I could do it, but with his encouragement, the Girls on Spyders, and people on here, I now have my "M" endorsement, ryde alone or together with Bruiser, and love it!!:yes:
