There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Why are these Multifunction Gauge Symbols flashing?

RT-S PE#0134
After a week of cold, icy conditions here was able to get out and do some riding this afternoon. 10 miles from home the engine seemed to "stumble" and the flashing engine icon came on for a few seconds only to be replaced by a "handlebar" icon. Those two icons alternated flashing until I could pull off the side of a two lane country road. Looking in the manual described several options/issues with the flashing engine light, but I can't find any description on the "handlebar" flashing light. The "remove and reinsert key" option did the trick and I continued riding with no repeat of the flashing icons. I plan on taking the RT in next week to the dealer to have them check it out.

But what does the flashing "handlebar" indicate?

Are you sure it was a flashing handlebar?? I've looked thru the service manuel and couldn't find anything...

Another post had the handlebar icon. Reading your solution, I'm betting it is a temporary loss of communication from the D.E.S.S. to the key.

That's what it looked like...RT shaped handlebar....overhead view. It was alternating between the engine icon. While looking down at the gages and looking for a place to pull off the road my eyes where distracted, but I'm certain that's what it looked like. That's whats puzzling, there's no mention of a gage icon like that in the manual....not even close. So, anybody know what it might be? Incidentally, after getting home rode it again for 30-35 miles with no recurrance. Gremlins at work????

I had the same thing happen to me last week.

Service manager is going to call BRP Monday to find out what the handlebar symbol means. Would be nice if they explained all the possible symbols in the owners manual or shop manual.

Thanks for the post. I guess I'm glad to know that I wasn't going crazy....some other folks have experienced the same problem. In my case I wasn't using cruise. I'm not able to take mine into the dealer until later this week. Interesting to hear what your dealer says as well as mine.

Haven't taken the Spyder to the dealer yet, anticipate doing that Friday. After talking to the dealer tech however, he called BRP about the "handlebar" icon with them suggesting that it would appear with overly aggressive cornering (wheel coming up) or a DPS malfunction. My driving style doesn't know the meaning of "aggressive corning" so it's gotta be associated with the DPS. As far as the engine "stumble" prior to the engine icon coming on alternating with the handlebar icon flashing, I guess the dealer will have to do some digging. Because we've had crummy weather for the last several days, I haven't been able to ride to see if the problem comes on again, so the jury's still out on the issue.

See what you guys have done.... I was dreaming last night that I was cruising along, with thre cruise control on (some how there was me and two other people on the bike) and the handlebar symbol came on, the bike studdered and the I got another symbol not mentioned in the manual... a bird with a smiling face.... Wierd dream... Thanks guys...

Update

Picked up Spyder today. After talking with BRP techs, dealer couldn't replicate or resolve the issue about the engine icon and handlebar icon lights coming on. Dealer did however replace the blown gaskets that I had and was unaware off. As I previously mentioned, after reinserting the key after the lights came on the problem never reappeared after 60-70 more miles. Riding it back from the dealer this afternoon ran great with no problems. So, I'll see how this goes.....

I took the Spyder out for a short ride this morning and as I was pulling into the garage the display started flashing the engine icon followed by the icon in the attached picture. These two continued to alternate. I immediately remembered reading this thread and wondered if it could be the same flashing handlebars icon described here. This is not the first time this has happened. a few weeks ago it finally got nice enough to take the first ride of the season and the same thing happened again as I was pulling into the garage. I shut off the engine waited a few minutes and then restarted it. I have been out 3 or 4 times once then and today is the first time it happened again. Can anybody identify this icon for me?

Yesterday I had some very confusing displays. Instead of handlebars being displayed, it appeared to be an overhead shot of the whole spyder. It was solid and did not flash. This appeared in the area normally displaying the trip milage. I pulled into a parking lot and did the menu set turnsignal thing and got another message in the main screen that was a picture of a key and the words "Master Key". While this was displayed the trip milage area went blank and stayed blank even when I selected trip A and trip B.
Turned off and on three times and left off long enough so that when I turned back on it rebooted at which time I got the back trunk open message.

It was in fact open and after I closed it, no more strange messages.

Ever happen to anyone else ?

Uh-oh! This doesn't sound good, provided your battery is up to snuff and the connectons are clean and tight. I think you have some serious wiring/connector/module problems, that need to be addressed by a dealer. These are going to be hard to find, so it would be best if you can get it directly to the dealer while the condition remains active.

I have also had the overhead picture of the bike appear in the trip mileage area three times. Twice the left saddle bag had come open and the other time rear trunk was not locked. After I stopped, shut and secured them the symbol went away.

This happened to me when I first got my RT. After a lot of checking it appears my wiring loom was to tight. The connection at the DPS was to tight causing the plug to flex, consequenty giving a bad comunication message to the computer. After they stretched it a bit and all the connectors had room to move the problem went away. Hope this helps.

Yep...that's exactly what happened to me except I was riding about 50-55 mph at the time. Dealer didn't couldn't pinpoint the problem. BRP techs told the dealer that handlebar icon suggested aggressive riding with a wheel coming off the ground, which in my case is a joke because I don't ride agressively at all. I've gone another 200 miles since the initial problem with no repeat of the problem.

So.....I dunno....

Having joined the group of riders whose RT has thrown the handlebar symbol to,:popcorn:

Was out riding yesterday, doing about 70 on the interstate, when the symbol began flashing, the RT-S went into limp mode, and I nursed it along to the next exit. As I was riding with my wife, I didn't want to risk trying to diagnose it, so my daughter came and picked her up. I tried the clearing maneuver which did the trick, and rode it home without incident. It's a bit unsettling to have that happen, especially at random like that. The only other unusual event was that immediately before this happened, I was trying to engage the cruise control. It would turn on or off, but would not set. When I restarted the RT, the cruise worked normally again, and there haven't been any further issues.
