• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Who here has *actually used* their BEST Warranty (either regular, *or* extended)?

The Best Warranty is a good one to have--for sure, if they are offering it for two years as a purchase bonus add on.

Have never had to use the warranty yet, but it is nice to have if you need to.

Additional warranties are a money maker for the dealer that sells them. Reason: most of the time they are not needed. Think of those extra warranties you purchase on electronics (Best Buy, etc). Its a part of every sales pitch. The employee makes extra commission, and you are covered if you ever need it. Likewise when you buy a car--additional warranties, rustproofing, credit life, gap insurance, body protection package, etc. etc. All great add ons-but mostly not needed.

Have not been a fan--but jumped on the free Best Warranty with my 2014 Spyder.

My RT ran out of factory warranty on March 3rd this year. On March 2nd I was on a run and went into limp mode with a big "E" where the gear indicator shows up.

I shut down and re-started and the limp mode went away. A couple of days later I had it into the dealer but they could find nothing wrong, cleared the codes and sent me on my way. This is the dealer I bought the Spyder from and they have experienced a lot of turnover this year. Since I didn't get a copy of a work order to document this for warranty purposes I asked for one and was told it wasn't needed. I then emailed the dealer for one but no one responded to my request and the service manager had just been fired.

When it happened agan in April, I took the Spyder to another dealer and explained the history.

They replaced what they called an Angle Rotation Sensor and we were back on the road.

They tried to get BRP to cover it under the original warranty but since I didn't have a strong paper trail I didn't expect them to cover it. As I suspected they didn't.

But I bought extended warranties for both of our machines last year so it was covered under that warranty. Cost me $50 for the deductible.

Warranty

I bought a 2008 GS used with 19,000 miles on it and a week of manufacturer warranty left. I insisted on the dealer giving me the three year Best warranty or I wasn't buying it. They did.

i owned the bike up until three days before the warranty expired. I used the warranty four times and only paid the $50 deductible once. Two repairs where for brake failures coding about $450 each. One was for a master cylinder replacement which was I am thinking about $1100 and the last was about $3900 repair job for replacement of the shaft that runs through the center of the bike connecting the right side to the left...something BRP said they had never seen before and shouldn't have happened. Got the bike back with two weeks left on the warranty and immediately started looking to sell and replace with one that had a five year warranty again.

For me, I won't buy one without it

RPM ONE

got the RPM one and my rear shock looks like its been leaking since way before the factory warranty expired in April 2014, in fact it was in the shop for a second water pump and they didn't catch it. when I brought it back to have them look at it, they say that's a 'wear item' and it's not covered. Still think it should have been covered by factory warranty. but RPM one didn't cover it. you can see oil all around it where it leaked. is the air shock not considered a 'wear item'?

I have used it twice both times with out issue. one time with original for water pump and extended for real air shock.

Would do it again for sure....

Note: I added the 4th question below, figure that helps out folks reading this thread understand and appreciate what's covered under warranty.

I saw in a different new rider thread the oft-mentioned Spyderlovers recommendation to purchase the extended warranty on the Spyder.

Like most of you, I did the same when I bought my Spyder three years ago; still got two more years to go on my extended warranty. Thankfully, I haven't had to use it.

That said, I'm always a skeptical sort, and it strikes me as surprising that I genuinely can't recall ANYONE using their BEST warranty in all the years I've been here at SL.

Actually, that's not true-- I do recall a few threads of people *failing* to get warranty coverage for their work.

So, these are my questions:
1. If you used the BEST warranty, was it honored? If not, why was it denied?
2. Did you use the warranty during your stock warranty time, or during your extension?
3. If you used your warranty, either successfully *or* unsuccessfully, if you could do it over again, would you choose to buy the extension again?
ADDED QUESTION #4. If you used it, what did you use it for?

Thanks everyone!
1yes,
2 yes, 5 motor tear downs on my first spyder in 86k and several other warranty issues
3 I had to pay extra for my extended warranty later and with my new one I got it right away, its a must ,if you ride everyday then its a definite must
4 engines, clutches , oil leaks, broken front pullys, gas leaks, rotor issues, belt issues, steering issues, cooling issues, tire problems, starter problems and electrical issues .

Since they never wrote up a work order there was no trail at all.

Seems they were so covered up the day I took it in, no one committed anything to computer or paper.

1. Yes, we have used it. Yes, it was honored.
2. So far, we have used it twice, during the stock warranty time (bought Spyder in August 2012).
3. Yes, we would do it over again.
4. First time was for bad spark plug wires. Second time was for defective front wheel bearing.

We love our Spyder, but not all of the problems we've had with it. Sure wish BRP had some competition to inspire them, so to speak.
