• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Which rear tire is best?

I'm at 12,000 miles and the center of my 2nd rear tire is toast. Looking for the best replacement tire. I know several have tried different brands and I'm looking for a comparison to stock. Better traction, stiffer sidewalls, rougher ride, weight, wear, etc..

What sizes can we put on the rim? Has anyone looked at any winter tires? I have a set of Nokian tires on my other vehicles that would be great year round on the Spyder if they made the right size.

I don't know what tire is best. But my local tire dealer says that Cooper makes a tire with almost the same tread pattern as stock. I'll be putting a new tire on soon. I don't know what it will be ,but it wont be stock.

The problem you'll run into is that our size, 225/50/15, is not common. I have not found a Cooper tire that will work on our Spyder.

It is very fortunate that Kumho and Toyo make pretty good tires in the size we need.

A better route would have been for BRP to go to a 16" rim and a 40 series tire. Ride would suffer a bit but tire selection and performance would be better. Then again, it may not have been BRP's intention to give us more tire options.

Let us know if your dealer can get you a Cooper tire in our size.

How much of a OD difference would a 225/60/15 make? If it clears the rear fender, it should work??? Or maybe add a couple of washers to raise the fender if needed??? There would be just a 22.5 difference in the 2 tires.
 
After reading about the Kumo and seeing the link for the Toyo, I picked the Toyo for my first replacement. I got 17,500 out of the OEM tire and am hoping to get 25,000 out of the Toyo. Had the first two rides in the rain with the Toyo, last night and again this morning. No issues during either ride and I'm pretty happy with my choice right now. I do think there is a little more tire noise with this one then the OEM, but not enough to worry about.

The issue with different sized tires is not the fender, but the nanny. Don't know how much tolerance there is for variation. The effective (rolling) diameter is the important thing. Stiffer tire has a larger rolling diameter than a soft-sided tire of same size. Stiffer and larger could be too much. Only one good way to find out, put one on, the effects on the Spyder can't readily be calculated or predicted. BTW, fender doesn't simply raise with washers...it has a solid metal backing.

Does anyone know the stock rear tire's outside diameter when new? A little taller mite get a little better gas mpg.. I know that different manufactures tires of the same size rating are a lot of times (different) taller - shorter-wider or narrower?

Not sure what the diameter difference is between the 50/60 ratio in the 225/15 tire would be.

I don't think the Spyder is going to be as easy to change tire size on as some other vehicles are. Even a small difference could be a problem.

If you try it please let us know how it goes.
