• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Which Ride On should I use - car type or motorcycle type?

Tire Sealant ??

So I want to add Ride On tire sealant and balancer. My question is, do I use car type or motorcycle type?

Is there any difference between the two choices.
My local Tire Shop will not work on Tires with any sealant.
They say it is to much trouble and very messy.
I have seen the mess. .....:yikes:

Two weeks ago, I had a conversation with Harry Farkhan, who is a tech at Ride-On. My auto formula would not distribute in my newly installed front tires. I had no issues with the auto formula in my Vredestein fronts. He was VERY EXPLICIT to use the MOTORCYCLE formula with all three wheel motorcycles. This includes Spyders, Rykers, H-D Tri-Glide and Polaris Slingshot. And yes, this includes car tires. The motorcycle forumal is more viscous. He also states to use the motorcycle dosage charge. For the Spyders, that is 9 oz for each front tire. Ride-On does NOT leave a mess with tire removal. The product remains in the lower tread area, and is not flung around.

Couple of cautions ...

- Check the shelf life. Stuff's rated good for maybe 5 years, and that's debatable. Keep in mind, the shelf life starts when the product is manufactured, so DO check the date on the bottle.

- DO use the bike version as it's more viscous and tends to seal faster if needed.

Oh. And be aware the stuff solidifies at lower temps, so don't expect to be out riding if it gets below -20F ... ;-}

* Yes - it can prevent catastrophic blowouts, but ... Interestingly enuf, the smaller the hole, the less effective the product, so you may still get slow leaks - Ride On's solution is to make the hole bigger so the sealant can get into the gap? Which (to me) implies the stuff is crap on slow leaks. Imagine most any rim leak and we're talking really small gaps the stuff would be unable toe seal.

PS - there's also the recycling issue - it's not, and that's a bigger complaint for dealers who just don't want to give the Alphabet Police (EPA, DOT, MOU SE) yet another excuse to poke around their dumpsters. Mfg doesn't recommend drain or landfill disposal, and no response when asked what other options are available, so should we just plan on stacking old cans of used product behind the garage and letting the next gen deal with it? Historically, that seems to be an acceptable solution for most any hazardous waste? ;-}

Sometimes the ignorance of claimed " EXPERTS " astounds me .... Spyders / Rykers have " J " rims just like Auto / Car tires.... and the tires they use MUST have " J " style Beads , not only is this a FACT, it's the LAW .... per US D.O.T . regulations. I'm way too lazy to type the LAW out .... But NEVER try to mount a Motorcycle tire on a Spyder ? Ryker rim .... Mike :thumbup:

Thing to remember is that you can't mount a MOTORCYCLE tire on a Ryker rim ... use only the OEM Ryker "specials" ... or any road rated CAR tire that will fit.

read read read ...

Yup ... what I said. ;-}
