• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Which Gas Would You Buy?

Been running ethyl but read a few months back on a BMW car repair shops blog that they up the octane with ethanol therefore they suggest just regular, anybody else heard this?

Higher octane does NOT mean higher power or better gas. The octane rating of the gas is a reflection of that gas's resistance to pre-ignition, or exploding before the spark plug fires. This has to do with the compression ratio of the engine as it goes into the compression stroke. The higher the compression, the higher the octane level is needed to prevent pre-ignition. There is absolutely no advantage to your engine to run fuel with a higher octane level than is needed. None. There is no higher amount of energy in premium gas over regular. The difference is in the engine. Generally, a way to get more power from an engine is to increase the compression ratio, and that is why higher octane is needed. It makes the gas more stable - less likely to burn before the desired instant.

...Which is why the 991 engines need a bit more octane in their diets, than do the 990s....

87 octane non-ethanol

I've run 91 octane N-E with non-discernible improvement in mpg. I've run 93 ethanol added with a loss of mpg. For those who choose to ignore mpg, I believe it to be a way to measure engine performance. Am I wrong? I haven't done any timed quarters so I am not positive about performance, but I cannot tell any loss. This info also applies to my 2012 RT Ltd. So if all indicators point to 87 non-ethanol, and it cost less, what would you run in your Spyder? That's what I do.
