• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I've had " AWG " or " AVG " recommended to me ..... it's FREE ....... " Kaspersky "was recently banned from the U.S....... Mike

Hi Mike,

Re: Kaspersky was recently banned from the U.S.

Are you sure? I read something about the military & the US gov't. banning it for themselves.

I have Kapersky & easily renewed it earlier this year.

Jerry Baumchen

PS) IMO None of them will work 100%.

I simply use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a free download. Along with "Malwarebytes" (another free download), it's all I need, and does the trick for me.

Note: I'm still using Windows 7, so I'm not sure whether these are compatible with newer OS's.

I like Malwarebytes also... I run it every couple of weeks as a sort of "quick clean-up" tool.
Windows 7 here also! :2thumbs:

I've been on Avast freebie for the past few years and had no issues. Just installed the Pro version which, I think, cost $29.95 or so.

I'm also a Win 7 user.

F-Secure. $69/yr for 3 licenses and they cover PC and Mac. Stepson introduced us to them 15 years ago when we picked up a virus that McAfee couldn't fix. Never had a problem after that.

I use Norton BUT Do Not allow "Auto Renew" Because it will double? I pay my $39 and then Disable auto renew and a few days before it expires you go to their site and get it for $39 Again- The Auto Renew will cost you DOUBLE???nojoke

OK! I've used ESET NOD32 for the last several years and never had a undetected threat.
Maybe it's only available in Europe...I don't know. But it is good in all aspects of protection whereas many only
seem to be good in certain detection functions and some are downright poor.

Do you have a link to their website?
I've never heard of them, but would like to see if they are available over here!

We used ESET on all salesmen's work computers for about 5 years with absolutely no problems. https://www.eset.com/us/

When windows 10 came out our IT guy switched us over to Windows Defender as the ESET expired. It is a free program from Microsoft, and at this point we have had no problems on any computer.

And I LIKE free:yes:

I use Norton. For home I get the 5 device version, for church the 10 device version. It covers smartphones, laptops, etc. I make sure auto renew is turned off. I buy a new copy at whatever cheapest price I can find, often on a Black Friday sale. Then when my copy expires I go through the process of changing the product key to the unused one I have in reserve. That way I buy when I find a great price, and use it when I need to, not before. Product keys stay good until used. Sometimes I've hung onto one for well over a year before I needed to use it.

eset is a good AV, many local eng. companies use them. I used to get them from newegg in Thanksgiving / Black Firday / Cyber Monaday time. I paid only $10 for 3 licenses or free after a rebate.

If you wantfree AV, Avast is good as well as Avira. AVG is under Avast now, used to be good too.

Don't rely on AV program thought, you can still get infected with adware, spyware... from advertisements. Hackers are targeting AV programs more and more as AV's give access to all root / system files on your computer.

That'is why I have Linux now, no worries of purchasing, sending rebates or getting a free AV. Its a slight learning curve, but very well worth it. Linux Mint is very similar to Windows w/o any telemetry or major changes, aka Win7 to Win10.
