I have a 2018 Spyder RT. I have the power butterfly (what I call it) on my bike that connects to the four bolts of the steering column. I have more than enough power modules to power several accessories, and I run a power cable from that to my iPhone, which sits in a ram mount on the left handlebar. It is secure, I can see it when I need/want to, and it works great. Just pop it off when I get where I am going, &/or pop it on when I leave.
I do have a hard case for it. I pop it out of that to put it in the ram mount and put the hard case that I also use as my wallet for cards, etc. in the "tank" storage area, or I put in in one of the pouches on the dash. I have found that I like that system quite a bit.
I will say this. I ride with fingerless gloves so that I can control my phone, but I don't touch it much other than to check my TPS. I can usually safely use or touch my screen if I need to; BUT - I error on the side of safety. Things can happen fast at 70mph, and we all know the dangers of texting and fiddling with a phone while driving, especially riding. If I need to make a call, send a text, or listen to music, I ask Cardo or address Siri via the Cardo system of my helmet; so essentially, I am hands free and that all works great.
Hope you find what works for you. Above all, have fun and above that, be safe!
