• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I know that I need to get a new key programmed at my Can-Am Dealer, he told me so, but he also told me he does not cut them. So does anyone know where I should get my new Can-Am Key Blank cut at? I live in a small town USA.

I bought blanks on Amazon and had them cut by my local hardware store. Had to have the keys programmed by the local CanAm dealer.

I think most major hardware store chains can do it .... I know Walmart does them .... I have had many different keys done there ..... good luck .... Mike

If it is an expensive transponder key, I would be hesitant to have the local hardware store do the cut as the level of experience and knowledge varies greatly depending on who is on shift at a given time. I think it is much safer to go to a proper locksmith shop as you are more likely to get someone who knows what they are doing and less likely to get an expensive key blank mess up. I'm as thrifty as anyone but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Thanks

Right on. I fully doubt any old hardware store, or Walmart [groan!], would stock the chipped blanks. I did my spare at the dealer. $125 total. [I'm sure some others would scream at me, at this post.]:lecturef_smilie:

Chipped BRP oem keys are/were $54 each through a dealer, uncut. The reason they don't cut them is because of mistakes as mentioned above. From personal experience, a competent lock shop will tell you from the get-go, "no guarantees". That's the risk you and I have to take. A competent locksmith will personally check your key works properly before he cuts you a copy. At least he should. Get an extra unchipped key cut also. I believe it is a Triumph key.

Make sure you the correct OEM chip key based on the year of your Spyder. 2013 and earlier keys don't work with 2014 and later Spyders.

So will the chipless key start the bike in a pinch?

No. Not unless you know somebody who has the Megatech license of BUDS/BUDS2 so they can turn off the security system. Most owners get the non-chip key so they can open the trunk or frunk where they have a spare chip key hidden in case they lose their chip key.
