What's your "traditional" Thanksgiving meal?

Thanksgiving's screaming down on us in just a few days...what's your "traditional" Thanksgiving feast? It wasn't until I was in the military that I realized how different people's Thanksgiving menus were...I find it kinda interesting.

Mine?

Turkey (recipe by Alton Brown from Food Network...we've been using it for at least ten years)
Stuffing (from scratch...my wife's own recipe)
Mashed potatoes (from scratch...my daughter's own recipe)
Candied sweet potatoes (from scratch...my late Dad's recipe)
Baked sweet potatoes (my wife's recipe)
Green bean casserole (generally a standard recipe)
Cranberry relish (from scratch...my wife's own recipe)
Sweet pickles (because that's what my parents had forever and my kids demand them)
Various and sundry breads
Mince pie (from scratch...my late Dad's recipe)
Various and sundry other pies with ice cream and/or whipped cream

Our half daughter usually brings an Ambrosia salad but she's not going to be having dinner with us this year.

expect i'll have a couple small pieces of turkey, whole bunch of fried oysters, and some sweet pickles and probably some rolls.

Turkey
Ham
Mashed potatoes
Baked Sweet potatoes
A couple of Green Vegetables
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Wine

And for the REAL Dessert: FOOTBALL!!!

I think you covered it pretty well. Everyone brings something. If ya leave hungry it's your own damn fault...LOL....Mmmmm, Turkey:clap:

The BEST part of the day??? :D
Sleeping off the meal; while watching the Football Games!!

Ham this year

In years past, I have got up early and fixed a turkey. This year my wife said that she wants ham instead of turkey. I bought a pound of sliced ham and a loaf of wheat bread.:roflblack: I have chili in the freezer for backup.

T-Giving Meal

I make the turkey. My kids and others make lots of extra stuff. Always enough to eat. Always leftovers. On the years when I have to work T-giving (I'm a nurse), I bring some snacks into work and we chow down on leftovers and what not all day.

I have 4 sons, 2 of them are married. Of the 6 kids, 3 are vegetarians. If the turkey wasn't free, I think I'd just get a big chicken.....

You won't be backed up if you eat the chili :yikes::roflblack:

When we have a crowd, we have the usual: turkey, dressing (not stuffing), green bean casserole, either mashed potatoes or baked sweet potatoes (depends who's attending). The things we have that's sorta unique are garlic rice and cranberry salad. Garlic rice is brown rice, butter, garlic, onion, mushrooms all baked in beef consume; it's buttery and flavorful. The cranberry salad is cranberries, oranges, apples, walnuts, pineapple, all ground up and congealed in cranberry or raspberry jello. Yum! We all like different pies, so we have pecan, apple and/or mince.

However, this year it'll be just my Pa, my brother and me, so we might just go to Cracker Barrel. That's what I'm voting for!

Smoked turkey, chestnut, apple and sausage dressing, sweet potato souffle, smashed (not mashed) potatoes, whatever veggies are handy, pumpkin/pecan pie, buttermilk pie, that about does it.

This yr I'm im putting a turkey on the smoker, as well as a ham that I cold smoked for 18 hrs.
Stuffing
Mashed taters
Cranberry sauce
Sweet taters baked in pure maple syrup
Prob some type a veggies my wife will try to get me to eat..yuk
Pumkin & apple pie
Pumkin roll.

Then a nap

Then a turkey sandwich

Repeat as needed.

Normally, turkey, dressing, succotash, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls or stuffing bread* if we can get it. Broccoli or some other green. Jewish apple cake, some type of pie or two. Wine for those that imbibe. But this year, we'll be going to a local restaurant that serves good home cooking. A long list of goodies to choose from, buffet style. It'll be Kris' aunt and uncle from Myrtle Beach, our daughter, and some friends. For $9.99 all you can eat, can't cook a Thanksgiving meal for 7 people for that. But the kicker, Kris' aunt is bringing a turkey and some other stuff so we can have that evening sandwich and then leftovers for Friday and or Saturday.

Stuffing bread- available at Great Harvest Bread Co. Tastes like stuffing and great for turkey sandwiches.

Sandwhiches

I try to talk my wife into making the turkey the day before so I can go right to the cold turkey sandwich with salt/pepper, mayo and cranberry sauce.
