• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What's the max RPM?

I've been out riding my ST Limited, and although I am making a conscious effort to shift at or above 6000 RPM, I finally noticed this morning that there is no red line on the tachometer. I presume the nanny has a built in rev limiter, but how far can I safely push the engine without getting a gear box enema? So far I haven't gone past 8K but she sure sounds like she's got a lot more revs in her.

Thanks!

The 2013 has a max of 9500. A rev limiter will kick in if you try to over rev. I believe max is 7500 or so on the 1330 engine.

All engine operation is permanently recorded in the computer. Running a lot at full red line could be held against you in the event of pre-mature engine failure. A few "tests" are not going to hurt though--IMO.

I think that if you look closely...
There's a little bit of a red (Or is it orange?) line on the outside edge of the rev scale...

Max RPM is....

That point just before the engine goes BANG :yikes:
Mine has a redline on the tach of 9500 RPM but there is no way I would push
the engine to that point.

Little checking..!!

not very clear but there is a marking. If you reach that point it will sputter and back off. Have hit it on occasion but if you want to see it in action at a really low speed try backing up fast..do on flat driveway...

There's a lot of riders out there; who let their bikes live up in those stratospheric rev ranges...
We all know that the Rotax 998 loves to rev; how long will it live up there, before "Life In The Fast Lane", starts taking a toll on it?

Almost on every outing I will shift at 9,000 rpm a couple of times. Good for it. The funny part is I get better gas mileage than most on this site report. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

If you bump into the 9,500 you will know it.

As I get used to my new Spyder I am cruising at a higher rev. It seems to run pretty good around 6K for cruising.

Sweet Spot - 998 cc Engine

I'm finding that the sweet spot for shifting in the two highest gears is 5200 rpm and for cruising at legal speeds (65-75 mph), 5500 RPM delivers the best mpg. If you get really good with the paddle sifters you can get no more than a 500 rpm drop on the up shifts. This is a fun machine to pilot, folks.
