What's the go with this Front End Wiggle? Do I need new tires already, or what?

I have a 2014 RTS, and on real smooth roads, my handlebars have a vibration to them. It is most noticeable on smooth roads, if you rest your hands on the bars lightly or just hang your wrists over the bars, your fingers vibrate around from it. It also vibrates when applying the brakes from a higher speed. When I go down a highway at 65-70, and exit onto a left turn lane, it looks like it is gonna shake the front fenders off when braking from that speed. I had the dealer balance the front tires awhile back and it made no difference. I took it to them again now, and was told they all pretty much do that. I bought the bike with 600 miles on it, and it didn't do that, now it has 6800 miles. It still has stock tires, shocks and stabilizer on it, does anyone have any ideas? Do I need new tires already, or is something maybe worn out in the front? I do corner really hard with the bike too.

My first guess would be warped brake rotors. Have you ever washed your Spyder as soon as you get home after a good ride?

I second that Dudley, Vib going down the road is the high spot on the rotor barely touching the pad and when brakes are applied it just magnifies it.

Take a look at your tires
Several people [including myself] have had the OEM tires cupped
I had the same feeling on my 2014 RT and it was from the tires
I had them balanced twice with no help
I finally switched to car tires and everything has been smooth since

I've never washed it right after a ride, and the dealer told me he checked the rotors for being warped and they were fine he said. ill have to look at my tires closer. What size car tires are people running on the front?

I think this statement has been made by a dealer about every problem a Spyder owner has experienced. I wonder how many just go away and live with the condition thinking there is no cure. Very sad....

In this case, as in almost every other, the real answer is NO! Your Spyder is NOT supposed to do that.

I checked this sight. Got a mean looking 225/50/15 for a good price. Also saw the 165/55/15 for the front. That's what I will consider for my next tires.

Curious..!!

May sound silly but have you checked the lug nuts. We have had loose or improper torques causing this as well. Hopefully the shop checked all front end parts that could cause this including the shocks...:dontknow:

dslim start with the least costly things first

About 72 +/- lbs torque on tight lug nuts. Check for loose wheel bearings. Jack up your spyder, take off the wheels and go to a reputable tire dealer and have them balanced and checked for being out of round or having bent rims. Find an experienced ROLO alignment specialist and have an alignment done. Remove the shocks and compare the two by compressing them and see if one is weaker that the other. Go to harbor freight and invest in a dial indicator to check your own brake rotors. It's not an expensive tool, easy to use, and a good investment. Treat your spyder's front end with lots of TLC and you'll be greatly rewarded. Good luck and happy trails.

I had a similar problem. Thought was the tires, They were worn and cupping. Had dealer change tires and told them I was getting a vibration. He told me that when the changed the tires and was balancing them, they had to remove some tar and pebbles from inner rim that built up. I do remember riding on some fresh repaired road,where they put down tar and then gravel . Which I hate!
Check inner rims for any build up of residue. Just a thought.

Lift the front wheels off the floor, check the tires, see if you can give them a full revolution without too much resistance. While doing this, watch the tread to see if there are high spots or uneven wear.

He also told you that "they all do that"......uuhhhh, NO they don't. Some good ideas have already been put out there. I'd find a new dealer as well.

Vibration on right front tire on a 2014RTS-SE6

I only get a vibration on the right front tire ,when I apply the brakes ( the speed I go @ between 50 to 70mph) or if I apply the brakes very hard( If I have to stop real quick) and I have 6 to 7 weights on the right front tire.

I also have the original front tires on, with 10,468 miles. I have not taken the spyder to my can-am dealer and asked why.

The left front tire I do not get any vibration.

Does anyone have any suggestions????

:spyder:I just started noticing the problem around 1000 miles on my 2014 RT-S, Between 50-60 mph the front cowling would start shaking and front tires vibrating. So yesterday I took it to the dealer to check it out, (now I have around 1500 miles) . They rebalanced the front tires and said they had to add about 1/2 ounce to each wheel but on there road test they also noticed it did not help and that I may be just bad tires , that they have seen that problem before. Also noted that it may need a laser alignment but they don't have the equipment to do that. Well now I get the wiggle / vibrations between 55-65. Having only having the Spyder 3 months I sure hate to have to start replacing stock tires already but the cowl shaking can get unnerving and a little embarrassing when riding with my goldwing trike buddies

There have been a number of bad OEM tire replacements on warranty. If your tires are out of round, separated cord, etc., there is no way they can be balanced. They have to be replaced.
