• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Whatcha think??

Honda won't make a trike. Sometime in the late 70's or early 80's before the advent of the 4wheel ATV's , Honda mass marketed a three wheeled ATV. So many people got hurt/killed riding them, that Honda signed an agreement with our government not to make a 3 wheeled vehicle.

Now with the advantage of technology..Nanny systems...ABS, etc., I wonder if Honda would even consider reneging on the contract or suing to void the original contract so that they could get back in the business. I'm sure that they have the ability to produce an amazing 3 wheeled vehicle. I'd love to see one !!

Me too! 1800cc.

Here's a link to and a jpg copy of the first page of the earliest Spyder patent I found on the US Patent and Trademark Office site. It was filed Feb 24, 2003, and issued on Sep 27, 2005. It has an entirely different frame design than the current Spyders have.

Here's the complete patent.

I'm not sure if that agreement would be applicable in this situation.
All of that mess came out of the ATC market... Off-road usage of balloon-tired trikes, has VERY little in common with today's street bikes.

I doubt BRE holds any patent on the reverse trike concept, however, I'm betting they hold hundreds that cover integral assemblies, component parts and perhaps even the software that make the Spyder unique.

im sure other companies are monitoring Spyder sales figures while working development at the same time. Not since the ATV has a product been delivered to a niche group.....you can bet others are watching. Just my 2 cents

I seem to recall that BRP sells perhaps 7,000 Spyders per yea r now...(that number may be WAY off...)
With such a small piece of the market; it's tough to justify jumping into it with a heavy capital investment.

RoadRunner Magazine reported that in May (I think) BRP sold their 100,000th Spyder. Of course I may have been experiencing another senior moment...

I doubt anyone holds a patent on a concept...

I think if any manufacturer wants to make a trike ... they could... how many different models of cars are made today ? dozens... so I don't think any patent right would impede someone from making a trike..
