• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What was wrong with the way it was?

PS:: I do wish there was a way to make this site secure. With the "https" leading the way.

I posted about this in another thread, id be happy to do so, but Lamont is sick & SSL Certs are 75 a year fro mgodaddy, about the cheapest around.

So who wants to chip in & buy an SSL Cert for the site?

Ive noticed the site slowness in the AM myself, ill see if i can dig into it a bit in the morning.

I do appreciate that some may have difficulties with accepting the recent changes here & accepting that from the Forum AND all the Users point of view, said changes were necessary if we wanted to continue using this Forum.... :lecturef_smilie:

But seriously, I'd like to think I'm just one of many who appreciate your efforts & want to say Thank you AnthonyG, for doing what's been necessary to keep this site alive & working  - and for putting up with all the flak too.

Oh, I didn't see the Today's Posts link until you mentioned it. Very cool!

:agree: x 3

That's true. But the changes made to the forum don't seem to enhance anything for the users. So, having to go to the trouble of learning something seems like trouble with no benefit.

The problem I had was when I post or reply to a post I like to preview the post to check for misspelt words (don't always catch them then either), but did not know how to after the upgrade. After it was explained to click on the "Go Advanced" button to go to the preview screen, I was good. Was not a major problem for me, and might have been wrong for me to even say anything about it other than I had to hit an extra button to post.

Honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about. Give it a couple of weeks, and everyone will be good.

Hi Blue Star,

Re: The problem I had was . . . . . .

This is exactly what I had to learn to do. It now takes one additional step, the Go Advanced, and then it is almost the same as before.

I had to do some exploring & testing to find this out.

Even a caveman can do it.

You could even hit the 'Preview Post' button BEFORE you 'Submit Reply' - that way you can see what it'll look like once it does get posted & you won't even hafta go find the thread, track down thru it to get to your post, & then edit your post if you want to correct or change anything... all done before you submit the post the first time! :ohyea:

That 'Go Advanced' thing does make it all pretty easy IF you want more than is allowed by the basic 'Quick Reply' option!

And you are so right about giving it a coupla weeks - maybe it'll be even less if the snow sets in early over there in your part of the world! I can still remember how bored & desperate we got to try/do anything new once the snow set in & we couldn't get out much! A week of being snowed in/enforced cabin fever & everyone'll have all the bells & whistles in the upgrades sorted & down pat! :roflblack:

Hi canamjhb,

Re: Before the "upgraded" changes, this forum was easy to use and predictable.

Think about it as a new wife. She will do the same things as the old one did; but you have to find out new things about her.

Jerry, having and old wife or getting a new one is akin to buying a horse. You just have to find one that has the faults that you can live with. Same goes for a web site. I realize Anthony is doing his best and taking a lot of heat from some of us, but what he says and how he does things leaves me clueless. I have to google some of his terms just to find out what he's talking about and then I'm not sure I understand the half of it. :gaah: :banghead:
I'm wondering why it is that Track Phone is successful and still going?

Trust me, most of the things i explained, i used the most simplest terms i could.

I guess this question is directed to Lamont as this is his forum. Before the "upgraded" changes, this forum was easy to use and predictable. With the "upgrade" I find it not as user friendly. I am one of those who almost exclusively used the "whats new" catagory. I "get it" that after I read something in the "whats new" catgory that it is no longer new to me. But the catagory is "whats new" NOT "whats new to me". There are 20 different catagories plus Home, Store, and Gallery. It is difficult for me to go back to "where I was" in a given day to see responses or make additions to a thread I am interested in. Previously, it was easy because I "lived" in the "whats new" catagory. Now I have over 20 different catagories where my interests could be. In fact, after posting this initial post, It does not come up when I click on "whats new". I also "get it" that there are things I can do to click here, click there. pull up key words, etc. to try to locate what I want. But why? Were there people who were having trouble navigating the forum in it's old configuration? Frankly I found the old configuration easy. The new "upgraded" configuration is combersome and is leaving me with over 8 pages of "Whats New". Sorry to be such a nag but I no longer feel at home in this forum. Perhaps many or most of the members who are more techie than I find it good. I don't. So, what was wrong with the way it was.....?

Would not surprise me at all if the site has a 'web host' or something similar who decides this stuff and not Lamont these days ..

I agree with the way it was!! As I am "technically challenged" I find it very difficult to navigate around sites that are not used friendly.
BIG F

Did you read the threads/posts explaining that nothing has changed other than "whats new" & "Quick Reply" being enabled?

I see the "What's New" button is back to the way it was before. Threads that are read are grayed but still there. I thought that could not be done.
