• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What type of gas CAN?

Have seen many links reporting on separate gas cans. I tried to find where to get them and there were many different sizes and shapes. Which one is best to make sure you get to your next stop? Saddle bag unit or frunk unit. Thanks in advance.

REDA Gas Can

I purchased 2 Reda Gas Cans, if I'm up in the mountains with gas being harder to find, I can put both in one saddle bag, no fumes, no spills......they are worth the money.

My personal choice was "Roto Pax". I've never experienced a leak and they come in different sizes. Reda has been recommended by many, but I have read negative reviews on Reda about leaking. Perhaps it was that they just didn't know how to use it.

What tpe of gas can?

I'm starting my research now and am leaning towards the Roto Pax 1.75 gallon. They look real nice on the side of the trailer. For those of you who have them (Joe and Dick) do you have them on both sides of your trailer? I remember seeing them on your trailers but don't remember if they were on both sides.

Roto Pax works very well if you want ot mount it on the side of your towalong...
They carry more than the Redas too!
(But the Reda can be safely tucked in; out of sight, and out of mind!

The consensus in many previous posts is the Reda gas can. It seems to fit the best and does not have issues with leaks or fumes in most cases.

If you want to go full bore, you should check out Mr Orange. He has a fuel cell mounted in the frunk.

I have only wished I had a gas can on board one time. That was on the Alcan Highway between Destruction Bay and Tok Alaska. I broke my own rule and did not fill up when I had a chance to. I drove for several miles with the guage on empty praying don't let it happen to me here. I made it with a little less than a half gallon to spare.

When I am unsure of availability I fill up where I find it--even if its only 50 miles or so from the last gas stop. The longest stretch I have found between stations is about 125 miles.

Looks like..!!

like there are two brands...I go with the filling up often. Gps tells me how far to the next station. Simple calculation. But not a bad idea if you have the room..

I do like the Roto Pax however I got an idea :yikes: My trailer will have a cooler shelf so why not mount the cooler, put a couple of conventional 2 gal. gas cans inside the cooler. That should leave room for a bag of ice and a couple of soda cans.

Either can will serve you well...especially if you replace the safety nozzle with the old-style one that is optional from Rotopax. It really comes down to what you carry and where you pack your luggage. You are going to lose some cargo space either way, so choose the can based on the location you would miss the loss of space the least. Everyone packs differently, so only you know what will work best for you.

BTW, I highly recommend carrying some nitrile gloves with either type of can. Those nozzles buried inside the can will stink up your hands (and subsequently your riding gloves) in a hurry. I also recommend using fuel stabilzer in any gas can...so the fuel will be good when the time comes. Empty the cans at least one or two times a year, too, to keep the gas fresher.

When I was looking for a small gas can to fit in the RT rear side compartments I decided to give this one a try even though it is not a Reda or Rotax. I picked this one mainly to get away from the crazy pouring spouts dictated by US Govt regs that always seem to cause a lot more spills...

After using the 1 1/4 can for several trips in the summer I had no leaks and no fumes and feel it is a very reliable solution. You can buy these at Northern Tool, Amazon, eBay, etc for a lot less than the advertised motorcycle cans...

Out of the 4 Reda cans I bought, 2 had the valve assembly in the nozzle come to pieces on me while trying (with difficulty) to pour the gas in my wife's SUV. To this day, I am not certain there are not pieces rolling around in her SUV's fuel tank. They are not user friendly and you will have gas all over your hands as the nozzle is reversed and inserted into the can while in storage.

If I feel the need again, I'll look for something else.

I have this one:

I only use it when I use the trailer. It carries 2 gallons and doesn't leak. I mount it on ice chest carrier on the tongue. Works fine. One gallon to me just seems like not enough plus I carry other things in my side cases.

Rotopax

I have a 1 gal Rotopax and it lays flat in the right hand storage compartment on my RTS. Then other things like spare oil and tools etc can be put on top of it.

Thanks Dick... I do remember the one you have. Oh yeah... We needed it on our way to Spyderfest last year.

I was hoping Dick (Dick574) and Joe (Cruzr Joe) would remind me of their set-up.
