There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. What to wear?

I will address the gear question rather than the safety issues.

On the safety side I will say, helmet, gloves, and boots are always with me.

The best hot weather gear (temp wise) is mesh. Jackets and pants are available from a wide number of suppliers.

When it is hot here (high 60's or more), out comes the mesh jacket. Don't have the mesh pants.

Kevlar jeans are good. I just recently found Carhart jeans. They have an extra layer of material sewn and riveted to the outside of both legs. Cost here, about $50 per pair--that's about half the price of a pair of Kevlar. The come in denim color, Carhart brown, khaki, grey, and green.

Once I get tired of the Kevlar--I think I am going to be a Carhart person--for the warm/hot weather jeans.

I try to ride aware and also try to avoid being involved in that crash that will result in "ejection." For me, were that to happen, am guessing it will be farewell. Don't fret, I will have left enjoying what I was doing to the end.

Just a note

I've been riding since 1951, and I can tell you that that light weight, feel good kind of gear will kill you, or at least break you up! The other comments make VERY good sense. I always wear a combination of protective gear. Luckily, I've only had one crash (low sider) in all those years, but it put me in the E.R for a week, and broke 7 ribs, one finger, concussion and road rash from the slide down the pave).
CapNCrunch := )

Just to clarify, I am wearing fully armored jacket and pants with the cooling vest under the jacket. The vents in the jacket allow for the evaporative cooling effect of the vest.

:agree: Whenever I see someone riding a motorcycle wearing shorts and flip flops or deck shoes, I just have to shake my head and go, "What a friggin' idiot". :lecturef_smilie: I won't even give them the "wave of respect".

If you go to Hawaii, they all do it. When I put on a half helmet (all that was available from the rental dealer), my gloves, boots, jeans, and mesh jacket, I both felt and looked out of place. The jacket came off in the PM--it was over 100 that day. My aloha shirt looked pretty flapping in the breeze though. We ended up on the Hana Hwy for most of our trip--speeds at 25 or much less depending on location. Ever drove 50 miles in just first gear? :roflblack::roflblack:

There's just something about seeing someone riding a motorcycle in shorts and/or flip flops that tells me they think this is all a big joke. Most of the people I ride with don't wear helmets, which I accept as a personal choice. But none of the riding groups that I belong to will allow anyone on a ride while wearing shorts.

Aside from that, I don't understand how you can expose your skin to the hot pipes and hot engine like that.... not to mention the blazing sun. Jeans protect your skin from all that.

To each is own, I don't try to dictate what other people do. I've seen way too many photos of legs and feet skinned down to the bone because the rider thought he looked cool in his bermuda shorts. Experienced riders, myself included, have absolutely no respect for those who wear shorts on a motorcycle.

You cover up what you want to protect... I wear a full face helmet and leather jacket in all weather.. My wife wears a modular helmet and either her leather jacket or textile jacket. People as me if I'm hot in the leather and I just tell them I would be a whole lot hotter if I fell off this thing without it... We wear gloves and boots too..

watch out for those rivets!

If your legs never touch the paint, you're golden. On day 2 of owning my F3, my husband who is a Carhart guy wore those riveted pants on my F3 and permanently marked up the paint in front of the seat. He is no longer allowed to wear those pants anywhere near my F3. In fact.... I can't remember when he's even driven the F3 last.

OUCH :yikes: I never wear those kind of pants, but now that I've heard what they can do, I will be extra careful to never buy any. I hope you were able to get the scratches out of your :spyder:

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to see what is going on with the rivets. They are pointy side up. I sure don't want to be messing up my finish.:bowdown:

So no helmet is "a personal choice". But wearing shorts is a deal breaker? Seriously?

Just my personal observation, which is shared by many serious riders. You can respect a rider who chooses not to wear a helmet, but it's hard to respect someone who dresses like he's going to the beach. Ask around if you don't believe me.

There's a reason why riding groups forbid shorts on group rides.

But if you choose to ride in a swimsuit that's your business. :dontknow:

Regardless of our personal feelings; this is an issue best left to the individual. You will NEVER get a group of this size to agree on a level of safety that everyone will like...

...Nor do they have to! :D
But just make sure that you're prepare to live with the consequences of your decisions; should a ride go "Pear-Shaped" on you! :yikes:

I NEVER try to get anyone to agree with my opinions. I just state my position, support it with facts, and let them decide on their own.

Unless you are standing before a judge, arguing is an utter waste of time :banghead:

"But none of the riding groups that I belong to will allow anyone on a ride while wearing shorts"

I have signed up for rides stating this but I have never seen how they actually allow or don’t allow anyone to do anything.
I always just laugh when I see these statements. How are they going to stop you? by being rude? or pulling a gun? lol
