What to pack for Cuba and Durango?

This may sound like a stupid question but need advice of of what and how much to pack. A lot of you guys are veterans and may have good advice like wet weather gear, extra gas, etc. I was an airborne medic in the Army and know how to pack a ruck sack but traveling on a Spyder is a whole new animal. Aside from wearing the same underware for several days, any other ideas to compress space needed for a safe and enjoyable trip.:f_spider:

I was total novice..first long distance trip I ended up shipping stuff home via USPS..discovered I just didn't need 4 pair of shoes besides my ryding boots...didn't need 4 belts, 4 extra pair of jeans, shirts, ...you get the idea...I had a whole lot of didn't need stuff. Now what do I have...I have my Spyder survival kit...these are those items that I have in case Ms Spyder breaks down or I meet someone on the road who is broke down and just might need that neon green duc tape!!! Found the list for the spyder items on this forum last year...do a search it's out there somewhere.
Personally I have 3 changes of clothes..many nights laundry is done when I shower (I know I am all for efficient use of time!!!). Ready to go in a.m...so never even get into "reserve clothing"...really good rain gear (a must have)..also have layers for different weather conditions..everything is best quality I can afford..for ex last year when headed to Spyderfest got into some nasty weather along the way...so glad I had my layers from UnderArmor to Gerbing heateds...rain gear over everything and I was snug as a bug in a rug. This year when I head for Spyderest I will have above plus my bajaron one piece riding suit (yea I forgot the name and to lazy to walk out and get it!!) Personal items.. take small size..pack my vitamin/supplements in daily baggies. Remember there is always a WalMart or similar within 100 miles of wherever you are..I always have my personal survival pack: TP..food bars..space blanket..matches..firestarter...the kind of thing you would need if you break down "out there".
As a grannie who's job is to spoil my grandkids I always find stuff along the route that I know they just gotta have...buy...find PO...mail...
Know others will jump in...I always lay out at least twice what I need...at this point I say No Trailer...so it has to all fit easily in my RT's storage options. This year I have eliminated my big laptop..went to Iphone and Ipad...huge savings of space...goodbye to laptop, gps, xm radio..wow should be able to pack at least another pair of shoes in that space

I think you hit it on the head, murph!! Packing for a trip is a combination of tribal knowledge, folklore and personal experience. Pack light, wash often, if you don't have it you can't put it on when it gets bad ... and riding cold in the rain is NO fun.

Rain suit is always in the bike - every ride. Fully agree with Murphy that you don't need as much as you think. It's great to have polypro type stuff, Under Armour, LD Comfort etc. that you can wash in the sink or shower each night and will be dry by morning. If I'm not camping I'll bring one pair of tennis type shoes in addition to the riding boots. For camping I'll usually want hiking boots. One pair of jeans - you get the idea. The tendency is definitely to overpack.

NANCYSTOY HAS A LIST OF THINGS HE TAKES SO I WENT SHOPPING AND HOPE IAM ALL SET FOR CUBA...MY FIRST SPYDERFEST AND LONG TRIP....NOW TO WORK ON THE CLOTHS FOR COLD WEATHER....HAVE THE RAIN GEAR ALL SET....THERE....

Forget the underwear, go commando. Wear bib overalls for comfort. You'll need a helmet in Misery. Rain gear is needed for April showers. Last year the mold and pollen count was very high so bring Claritan.

GEAR

THE ABSOLUTELY FIRST THING NEEDED IS TO KNOW HOW MUCH STORAGE SPACE YOU HAVE....IS IT THE FRUNK ONLY ?...DO YOU HAVE A REAR TRAVEL TRUNK .. SIDE BAGS....DO YOU HAVE A PASSENGER ????....CAN/ARE YOU ABLE TO ALSO BRING A BACK-PACK...ONCE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SPACE YOU HAVE AVAILABLE THEN YOU CAN START ACTUALLY PICKING THINGS OUT TO BRING AND MAKING THE HARD CHOICES BASED ON SPACE....JUST MY OPINION....GOOD LUCK...SEE YOU THERE..MIKE...WOO WOO....CAN'T WAIT !!!!!....:yes::yes::yes::agree::ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:...

The best advice I can give about motorcycle touring...especially if camping, is pack like a backpacker. That means a minimum of stuff...light and small. For us, three sets of clothes (one on your back, one spare, and one in the wash) works best if we have room...otherwise two changes will do. Quick-drying performance undies rinse out in the sink and dry overnight. Never take more than a t-shirt or two...you will come home with twice that. They seem to breed along the way...LOL. An extra, long-sleeved jersey or turtleneck and a fleece jacket will do double duty...adding another layer for warmth if you need it when riding, and good for hanging around talking with friends later. I take some shower clogs or water shoes if I have room. I also take my knee-length riding socks. The rainsuits are a must, and your riding gear is more important than extra undies or blue jeans. Spare gloves are nice. Don't forget the hat and sunglasses. When you get home, separate the things you wore from those you didn't use. and leave the unused stuff at home for the next trip (except the rainsuit). In time you will get things down to a science. I like to use a checklist to pack. For motorcycle camping, this is the best checklist I've found. http://micapeak.com/checklists/mclist.html

I used to do alot of backpacking in my younger years. The rule that I used for packing was this.....
Set your stuff in 3 piles.
In the first pile place the things that you MUST have
In the 2nd pile place the things that you would like to have.
In the third pile place the things that would be fun to have.

Then take everything from the first pile, nothing from the 2nd, and 1 thing from the third.:lecturef_smilie:

Hope you're joking about wearing the same underwear a couple days.

Don't want Monkey Butt to be part of the road trip...nojoke

Its better to take more dainties than you need.

I can't really speak to MO in April, but crossing the Rockies and staying in the Durango area in June... thinking layers that can easily be put on, taken off and put back on again. You can see temps ranging from 34 to 94, hail, rain, snow or weeks of the best weather you can imagine. June has a tendency to get wet in the afternoons, sometimes really intense, but not usually lasting long.

Combine the good parts of the above responses and... if you have room for extra gloves (light, medium heavy), thermal socks for the mornings at altitude (unless your ryding boots are really good), a good weather-proof shell type jacket... take them. None of your gear that is at home will do you any good while out on the road.

Expect the best, but plan for the worst!

Teddy has me pack his "Dog House" on wheels

Good advice from MurphyBrown. In fact, the first time Teddy & I met Karyl was in the parking lot of the worlds smallest Walmart at last years SpyderFest in Cuba, MO :firstplace: Will be good to see you again  & all the other SpyderLovers there :2thumbs:

Murphy's is a good list. For underwear.... suggestion.... bring your oldest and throw away after you wear. Of course you can get 2 days if you turn them inside out. :shemademe_smilie:I wear one pair of jeans and have a spare pair..... no matter how many days I am traveling. On T-Shirts.... remember you will be getting one is your packet and then we almost always buy at least 1-2 more. So depending on how many days.... not too many needed. Definitely your rain gear and cold weather gear.... especially for SpyderFest. For the Durango.... same thing cause it can get awful cold out that way even though it will be June. Agree with everyone..... underpack and you will still have stuff you don't wear. Can't wait to see you at SpyderFest.
