• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

what to look for in a painter

Don't know if this is a stupid question but I'm thinking of getting my spyder painted, something simple solid color. What do I look for in a painter and where is the best place. Is it better to go to a collision type shop or a motorcycle shop etc. What should I look for in painting the plastic so I know he/she is doing it right. I know it has been mentioned about making the paint flexable and no clearcoat. Is there anything else.

thanks

See his gallery of work and take notice of his attention to detail. Make sure he's familiar with your medium (e.g. plastic). Ask for references and call them. Be sure to ask them the following:

- Did the painter get the job done in the time expected
- Was the final output reflective of your vision
- How has the paint job held up?

Now I chose a painter without a whole lot of experience and had some growing pains as a result. But I was also able to negotiate a better price and have built a great relationship with him where I feel comfortable coming back to him for touch ups and additional work.

Good luck!

:agree:

Make sure you choose a painter that knows about spyders. I know a couple of owners who go there spyder painted buy just a regular paint shop. When the shop put the bike back together they did it totally wrong. Syders are different from regular motorcycles. The shop should have the manual to put spydie back together properly.
Good Luck

paint

If you take the spyder apart and send the panels out to a bike shop .
Pick a color you like and make shure they clear coat all parts .some bike shops well take it apart and put back on but I like to do my own so I no they are together right . fenders come apart 4 nuts on each trunk hood two boults and nuts . back fender 4 boults and nuts all other panels come off screws and pull plugs easy tape it when you do it and put back same way in revirce .:2thumbs:

Take the parts off your self, and take them to a painter not the whole bike.

Just my advice, and two cents would be to remove the parts yourself, and take them to a shop with all fasteners, decals, and etc removed. Just me life will be a lot simpler for you, and you will have a better handle on the work performed. I bet the turn around on prep, and paint ready parts alone will be two days.

Yup, that is what I did. It is cheaper too. It may seem like a lot of work for you at first but it is worth it. Besides, do you really want someone else taking apart your spyder?
